4chan is an extreme example of an unmoderated site - indeed it’s what the OSA was designed to combat. If this legislative test fails, it would undermine the acts legitimacy, and provoke questions as to it’s existence.

It’s a shit law - it’s not fit for purpose. Its sole reason for existence is to controle public speech, not protect the children.

Having Fedi folks agreeing with 4chan is not on my bingo card this year, or ever.

Lol its a hate speech site, nazi bar. They literally use n-words. As someone from a family of immigrants, I don’t deal with bigotry like “go back to your country”, so no thanks, you can go enjoy the toxicity if you want lol.

Undeterred “free speech” has a self-limiting feedback loop where the most extreme views shared by a majority of users eventually drown out minority views. Threats and insults are a kind of self moderation in communities like those, they incentivise uniformity in opinions and demographic while deterring minority/disenfranchised groups from interacting, which is exactly what happened with 4Chan. For example, as of 2025 roughly 80% of 4Chan users are male compared to, say, Tumblr’s 49%

Formal moderation, while not always well done, is a way to protect diverse opinions.

I would normally be sympathetic to their stand except earlier this year when this first started, they called on Trump to use all available political leverages to prevent this and protect free speech. Calling on Trump to protect free speech is just absolutely ridiculous.

Back in the day it was humorous, because every 4chan poster ‘knew’ to replace the word that was obviously the unknown word with a slur, curse, pejorative, or random word. Like, how did 4chan not get ripped from being able to use capcha?

As shitty as 4chan is, as dumb and pointless as that UK legislation is, we STILL invited Trump to dine with the King. The Royal family didn’t even invite thier own pedo.
