In international context the International System of Units must be used. So the ° is wrong it’s ‘K’. You have to put the cookies in a ice/salt mixture or better frozen CO2
That would be ideal but honestly I don’t mind too much if someone just uses the °F or °C, i can convert it easly, it’s annoying if they don’t use any unit at all tho and expect me to just guess
True, however the “convert it easily” part is getting tricky as soon as you deal with seismic activities or radio nuclides.
As with everything, we know it’s all the Americans’ fault. Joking. Halfway, anyway - they are a majority of the people who, internationally speaking, wanted to be all precious about this stuff. Although even if they didn’t, it’d still seem like “good practice” to include units anyway, though.
The cooking does tend to just be context, though, or at least “same as all the other recipes”. There’s only so many sane temps to pick for any given thing, and there’s a factor of ~2 between the two choices. E.g. if you were baking, 210° is either pretty hot or way too cool for most things.
An unspoken rule of the Internet: If a post doesn’t specify country, units, server, or time zone, and that information is relevant, then it was written by someone who is unaware of those things. You know, Americans.
I get what you’re saying, but a realistic temperature for cooking only makes sense if you’re familiar with cooking. I’m sure there was someone who was wondering why their cookies weren’t cooking at 175° F or utterly annihilated them at 350° C. It’s just a couple extra characters, anyway.
Sure. As I said, it makes sense to just… not be ambiguous. As for familiarity, I don’t think you really need it? You’ll have an inkling of where the recipe came from and be 90% sure most of the time. If not, searching for one more recipe means it’s suddenly really unlikely to still be unclear. No matter what you want you could search for non-US units to rule out/convert.
Familiarity would mean it’s even easier, you’ll go “of course this is baked at around 175°C like virtually all the other things like it” and almost certainly be right. Although baking is notoriously finicky…
Same is true when people tell you their local time and not their time zone.
Why do you need their time zone if you know their local time? You’ll either be in the same time zone as them, or in one that you can reference your time to theirs.

I work in metric as an American, my industry is probably the only one that works in metric world wide. Temp is mixed

My last project in aerospace with 100’s of people was mostly Imperial. There is a lot of mixing of units and you can basically design your subsystem however you want. There was a mandate decades ago to go metric, but that has largely been ignored. It’s the worst of both worlds!
My current project is just a couple people, so I mandated all metric. I have to spend a lot of money on tooling, but it is largely fine. I would say 10 years ago getting some fancy aerospace grade fasteners was easier in Imperial, less so today.
My mind still defaults to Imperial for very small dimensions like a 8 thou gap or something.
30+ years satellites, we are all metric. But as @FuglyDuck said it was a mixed team that mixed measurements that caused the failure.
We do everything in house so when parts\waveguide\antenna’s\etc all gets ordered its all metric.
And I do agree 10+ years ago it was a nightmare to source but since we are international we could have bulk sent over from Europe and eventually Canada.
Oh I missed the “The worst of both worlds” part LOL I can imagine, I guess if it comes to modules they could be mixed as long as they can fit in the footprint of the engineering drawings :)

Yeah I’ve been here, in the US so getting raw stock in metric is prohibitively expensive. So sheet metal is where it all falls down and makes me a bit of a fibber. We would convert it to mm for the final drawings.
Before CNC’s were common I can tell you some horror stories going to a local machine shop needing it all in metric and you could hear the modem noises in their heads. We would bring them metric micrometers and scientific rulers to help them along. Mind you this was in the late 90’s and they were masters of their art, but metric wasn’t the norm in their world.
Didn’t that happen because of the Mars Climate Observer crashing? Caused by a us team using pounds-force-seconds where nasa expected newton-seconds (sending it hurtling towards mars at a too-low dip into the atmosphere)

I’m not from the US and don’t use it, but a cup there is an actual measurement (for liquid - it’s not used to measure weight). 8 fluid ounces or about 240ml. The metric alternative of a US cup is 250ml
We don’t measure weights in cups, but we do measure some ingredients (like flour) by volume, so it’s not uncommon here to see a recipe that calls for 1 cup of flour instead of 120g
However, we do use “ounce” to mean both 1/8 of a cup in volume and 1/16 of a pound in weight…
