As the title says, it’s mildly infuriating seeing someone say " cook this at 210° " and stuff like that, we are in a international context!! Do i have to put those cookies in the flames of hell or just around the boiling point of water?!

Edit: the cookie thing was just an example and i throw a random number lol

Usually they mean the imperial unit “cup” i fucking hate imperial…also, it’s annoying in this case because you have to guess that it’s the imperial unit and not a random cup

Nobody has ever read cooking instruction and thought “they mean for me to measure this with a mug from my cabinet” lol

However, in modern recipes, the US legal cup of 240 ml (about 8.45 British imperial fluid ounces or 8.12 US customary fluid ounces) is more commonly used.

I like how you just pulled that sentence out of context from the description for ONE country and ignored the dozen other countries with different measurements.

You literally pulled up a cherry picked list of where there are discrepancies. You’re allowed to and im not?

Also, would you look at that: almost all of them have converged to US customary or 250mL, which is within the tolerance for error.

The entire point of this thread from the comment you replied to, is that ‘cup’ is an inexact unit of measurement that varies. My list is providing examples, I’m not seeing the issue here.

You’re allowed to and im not?

You were misrepresenting the statement as if it applied globally when in actuality it was meant for ONE country. That’s just bad faith discussion.

Except for Latin America, the UK, most of Asia, parts of Europe, etc. 🙄

No, but they’ve probably thought “what fucking size cup do these twats mean and why can’t they just put an actual measurement”.

I’ll take your word for it. All of my measuring tools have cups on one side and mL on the other. Git gud scrub

Often, people look to the internet to learn things. Given that circu.stance, they may not have that foundational knowledge. So how are those scrubs supposed to git gud?
