Been in this situation countless times. Everytime this happens I promise myself I will be grateful and enjoy the ability to breathe through both of my nostrils once it happens and yet I forget about it the next day

The 2 best ways to clear a nose.

The first is you exhale as long as you can through your nose and then pinch it with a tissue as if you were going to blow your nose. Then keep hold your breath and tilt your head up, then down, then up, then down… Continuously until you absolutely cannot breathe. Then blow your nose and both sides will clear out completely.

The second is to lay down “like one of your french girls” meme, with your head held up in your hand leaning on your elbow. If you are on your left side, the right nostril will clear, and if your on your right side the left nostril will start clearing. This helps get the pressure down.

These work 100% of the time, but for short periods (because of anatomical reasons) but what a relief. Enjoy

Fun fact: the nose has the same erectile tissue as the penis for the mechanism of closing and opening each nostril.

    • The best way to clear your nose under any circumstances other than being allergic to the solution is:

      Horseradish, wasabi, or English mustard.

The spicier the better. Peppers affect what they touch; these things affect your eyes and nose. Eat a huge wad of wasabi and you’ll go from clogged to runny lickety split.

I call shenanigans, none of the words in this meme sound like blocked nose words

But also that moment when your congestion clears all at once. Ooof, that’s a good feeling.

This meme pains me. Have had two surgeries on my nose and sinuses to help this, but I had an S-shaped septum and weak cartilage surrounding my nasal valves. Breathing in collapsed one valve, breathing out collapsed the other, and that had happened pretty much my entire life. So much better now, but my breathing will never be “normal”.

Nope, my breathing problems were never helped by anything like Afrin. If anyone, only saline spray or neti pot seemed to help. The valves in my nose were the most significant issue but then in my sinuses, my ENT/surgeon said, and I quote, “it was all jacked up in there” 😂😂😂 I do appreciate he recognized the casual approach was best with me, even if I understood the technical bits about the procedures.

I don’t know what my nose is doing, but I haven’t ever gone a day without blockage in at least one nostral, with overflow threatening another.

But sometimes… Sometimes I can breathe. And it’s like I smell ALL the fuckin smells. Do you ever get that? It lasts just a moment usually for me… A half a no minute at most. It’s amazing.

        Oh absolutely. It’s crazy, right?

A friend of mine has a similar breathing problem, and it was regular occurrence to mention when either one of us “snotted” lol. We both knew that that was literally the best relieving feeling we experienced.

Do yourself a favor and get into an ENT to find out if something is fixable with medicine or if it’ll require surgery. I researched best ENTs specifically looking for those who were the best rated for surgery in my area. Happily went out of my way to find one, completely expecting to need surgery. I could tell he was not wanting to break the news I could only fix it with surgery but I immediately wanted to schedule it and he was a bit taken aback lol.

This year I actually found a combination of allergy meds that works for me (yes combination, 1 just doesn’t do it for me)

It’s straight up bliss not having to wear a face mask for a couple months just to not die

Edit: Yes I consulted my doctor before doing multiple at a time. In fact the 2 I’m taking right now (Allegra and Flonase) were the 2 they recommended I try together.

You should check out Azelestine is you haven’t already… Antihistamine straight to the brain! Well, okay, the nose. It’s a really nice option.

I have to be careful with the antihistamines I use due to other medications I’m on and due to my job being operating heavy machinery

Basically if the side effect list includes drowsiness I can’t take it

Azelistine has never, to my knowledge, made me drowsy. It’s not taken in a pill - it’s a spray. You shoot it right onto the problem area (if that area is the nose - though, there’s eye drops I hear as well.)

This said, do absolutely consult a doctor if you can… BUT, this is actually an over-the-counter drug as of a few years ago. Easy to try if you can’t afford the allergist. Maybe on your day off, if you can take it with the other(s). Google it, or ideally ask your doctor first.

Me getting some serious allergies ever since I came to visit my (pregnant) sister

Praying it IS just allergies and not an infection

And it has gotten bad. Y’know when there’s mucus down in your lungs? Yea.

AND she lives in a small town, so the bronchitis pump I use won’t be here until tomorrow as it has to be ordered from the big city.
