Yeah I’ve seen a lot of dumb LLM implementations, but this one may take the cake. I don’t get why tech leaders see “AI” and go yes, please throw that at everything. I know it’s the current buzzword but it’s been proven OVER AND OVER just in the past couple of months that it’s not anywhere close to ready for prime-time.
This is the real reason I have one of those damn mouse jigglers. The timeouts on our laptop are CRAZY short, like 5 minutes tops. Just stepping away for some coffee or to take a shit then I have to re-authenticate. Heaven forbid I make myself a toasted bagel or something!
It’s even worse as I work 95% inside multiple virtual machines in the cloud that also timeout (and in some cases shut down) so there are multiple layers of password +2fa just to get back to whatever I was doing.
So yeah, $10 USB device from Amazon allows me to not spend a hour a day just having to re-auth.
Yep, the fab plant is a little east of Columbus (just south of where I live actually). This is one of like 2 dozen “super loads” that has to make its way from the Ohio River up to the plant. I swear there is a website somewhere that keeps track of when the are coming, the routes they take, and the closures involved but my Google-fu is failing me now.
The first part of my email has remained unchanged since about then. I’ve gone through various services though. AOL, Earthlink, Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and now Proton.
I also have a first.last@gmail address I keep for anything more formal (resume).
Cheers - I’ll drink to that!
heh, you don’t know how true this is. I’ve worked in IT for 2 decades. IT is pretty much always seen as a cost center.
If everything is running smoothly - “what are we paying you for?!”
If everything is on fire - " What are we paying you for!?"
And now with companies getting the tiniest of slaps on the wrists for willful negligence it’s cheaper to cut IT funding, outsource it, whatever.
If the cost of the fine is less than the profits gained by doing “x” then that’s just the cost of doing business. Execs will continue to do this until there are real consequences for the company and them directly.
I’ll look forward to my $0.50 check and exactly zero consequences for the higher-ups that I’m sure slashed IT/cybersecurity budgets.
Oh wait you can do that? Damn I feel like an idiot now… I have 100% accidentally downvoted without realizing it.
Looks like the initial post is simply a person on a forum: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/ap-fsd-related-crashes.264798/page-8#post-8259936
There are dashcam videos here but I’m not signing up for a dropbox to view them.
The best (subjective, I know) article that I could quickly find seems to be Yahoo: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/tesla-full-self-driving-mode-160500725.html
The videos here don’t load for me, could be an extension blocking them.
Not saying it’s not credible, but I would take it with a grain of salt.
That said, knowing the issues with FSD I would be shocked to learn this was made up, lol.
I work for a 350k+ company doing grid mod for energy utilities. The head of our division had an “all hands” meeting earlier in the week saying based on client requirements we all need to be in an office or on the clients site.
The head of our group of ~20 (my bosses boss) scheduled a meeting right after and said ignore that. Our team is kicking ass and our current client has not such requirements (other than onsite at their location for training/go-lives which is reasonable). Furthermore, he said unless it was out of his hands this could be the normal with new clients.
We have a killer team from all over the US (many of whom are nowhere near the client or our company offices). This team would dissolve quickly if that mandate ever hit us.
My point is, there ARE still people in upper(ish) management that understand to keep top talent you have to be willing to accept or embrace work from wherever. Hell, during the last go-live last hear he basically said unless absolutely required he didn’t WANT any of us on-site with the client. He wanted us all comfy, no jet-lag, in our normal settings to be able to troubleshoot issues. Granted, I worked nearly 80 hours that week, but that’s not a normal week. I usually work 30-40.
lol and holy wall of text batman. I didn’t mean to write that much but it’s here and I don’t want to delete it.
Not until you made this comment…now I can’t un-consider it.
Still works for me as of 1900 UTC.
Ridiculous: One day when using Ubuntu, the entire system went upside-down. As in, everything was working perfectly fine, but literally the screen was upside-down. After much Googling I had no luck figuring it out, then I accidentally found the solution - I’d plugged a PS4 controller into the USB on the laptop to charge it, and for some reason Ubuntu interpreted the gyroscope on the controller as “rotate the screen display” so when I moved it, the screen spun round. I only figured it out by accident when I plugged it back it and it spun back to normal lol.
LMAO what the fuck?
Huh, I always though Musk would be Ted Faro not Bezos.
I pumped gas at a brand new Shell station over the weekend. The controls for the pump was one GIANT touchscreen (I’m talking probably 12 inches wide by 36 inches tall). It was fucking PAINFUL to use. Every touch took 2-3 seconds for the action to happen. Da fuck is wrong with a regular pump and regular buttons that just work!?
I vote for Musk.
