I haven’t been watching much in terms of actual shows for a good while, then while listening to a podcast a host casually mentioned they had rewatched Chernobyl, how it still holds up, that there’s a reason it got as much acclaim as it did, etc. So I thought I’d give it a go and wow, loved it (still one episode left to watch).
Had me thinking, what else have I missed out on? What are some “absolute cinema” TV shows that still hold up and and are considered must watch?

Midnight Mass is up there for me, but particularly because I really enjoy the themes present. I thought it was even better than Haunting of Hill House (which is phenomenal). But I have a friend who fucking hated it and refused to finish it, so uh, your mileage may vary lol.
Also, I don’t know if I would call it “cinema”, but Taskmaster is probably the funniest shit I’ve ever seen consistently across 20+ series and I hope it never fucking ends.
I enjoyed Midnight Mass, but I think it could have benefitted from some tightening up and being made 25-50% shorter. Also while it’s technically a monster/horror series, I think it’s a meditation on religion even more (which is either a plus or a minus depending on the person).
Midnight Mass was good, but I’m pretty sure I hated the ending.
Taskmaster is amazing. I love the British approach that puts comedians on game shows. (The Australia and New Zealand versions are great fun as well.)
