hot take, almost all of the star wars movies and shows are objectively pretty damn shitty, RoS is just the newest bad movie in a series with far more misses than hits.
why are you high horsing over someone liking a bad movie, from a series of mostly bad movies, in a thread about liking bad movies?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi for me. I don’t remember details, but I remember liking it and thinking it was nice to bring original things to the saga (especially because episode VII was almost a tribute to episode IV). Then fans complained and they reverted a lot of themes and things 💔.
Most of the whining about it is either shit people made up (Luke drinking milk directly from the alien’s udder and smiling erotically into the camera*), shit they didn’t take two seconds to even try to understand (like how the “Mary Poppins” effect is actually a realistic portrayal of how things move in zero-G vacuum, or how humans don’t just explode in space like they do in shitty B-movies**), or criticisms that could be equally leveled at basically any Star Wars movie (weird pacing, minor plot holes, inconsistent “rule of cool” logic for tech and magic).
Once the typical reactionary fanboy-didn’t-get-exactly-what-he-expected dies down I think it’ll be recognized as one of the franchise’s higher points. TLJ’s worst sin is being situated between two JJ Abrams hack jobs.
*no I’m not making this up someone unironically described it to me this way with a straight face.
**not making this up either, people i’ve talked to legit seem to think one atmo of negative pressure turns the human body into a meat bomb or something.
My dad pulled me out of school just to wait in line for Phantom Menace tickets. I thought the prequels, while enjoyable, were the last time I would be disappointed by Star Wars.
i don’t bother myself keeping up with what’s “canon” anymore because nearly every screenplay addition to the canon since the OT has been hella stupid, and most of the time retroactively makes the existing story worse. disney’s starting to ramp it up to kingdom hearts levels of convolution and pointless tie-ins that go nowhere but inexplicably contain huge plot points because… money i guess?
the OT is great but star wars as a franchise is generally fucking awful with some good bits here and there.
I’m going to get impaled for this but The Rise of Skywalker. It’s my guilty pleasure.
I’m so sorry for you
The 90% of star wars fans who didn’t like it need your sympathy more urgently. Thanks, though?

TLJ is easily the best non-OT Star Wars movie.

upvote for actually understanding the prompt and naming a shitty movie.

I was so fucking wrong holy shit.
