I’d suggest the ‘giant douche/ turd sandwich’ rhetoric had a direct impact on the 2004 and 2016 elections - both of which were ‘lost’ by the Democrats, by razor thin (even a razor that folds over one way but ends up cutting the other way somehow, because fuck the will of the people) margin, and had profound effects on the society of their time.
