100%! I don’t understand how this is a hard concept to grasp. I’ve been able to make productivity gains, sure, but who gives a fuck? Even if my productivity is the same, my QoL is still much improved when I’m not buried in mundanity.

Maybe it helps to say that this was in no way forced on me. The stuff my employer has done to “adapt AI” is laughable and seemed to be nothing more than lip service to the execs who want to slap that sticker on the product.

The gains for me personally have been strictly using it as a tool in niche situations. I prefer to do things the hard way when it’s for me but I’m not breaking my back for a corporation.

I work at a sales-first (read: no accountability) software company, ran by inept nepo-babies and a hostile VC. I frequently have to completely re-do all of the sales engineering work when a new project starts, because they refuse to standardize or talk to each other.

After enough time doing this shit by hand, I took my best examples from previous projects and had an agent “fix the errors based on the conventions I established over here”. Instead of going line by line on these big serialized data formats now, I do about 10min of checking the results and editing down the change log.

It’s wack that I have to re-do someone else’s job still, but at least I can force some version of standardization without killing myself on the tedious bits.

I was having legitimate eye strain issues before using dark mode in more places. I also only have vision in one eye, so that factor is in the mix. Anyhow, for me, dark mode is more of an accessibility tool, not “some hobbyist thing”.

They told you all the best stuff honestly. If you’re into alcohol you’ll have no trouble finding it. Amazing city though. The food culture there is incredible.

I did the same thing a few days ago, but I’m also pretty well versed with self hosting tedious-to-configure services. I would have spent hours rabbit-holing before setting up, and Claude just sped up the process.

I spent most of my time researching and forming an action plan, arguably the most important piece. Within two hours I had a Matrix server stood up with element-web, as well as coturn for calls. Setting up Element-Call for groups took a little longer, but not terrible all told.

I guess what I’m saying is if you’re experienced with a given task, it can be a really great tool to speed things along. If you want to sit back and have it run the show, you’re going to have a rough time.

Out of curiosity, what music software are you using on Linux? I haven’t found a DAW I’ve liked.

Oh man, my wife HATES the omelette episode, it’s too real for her. I tend to do better with the kids when we cook together, but it’s also down to the projects I pick. Making pasta from scratch is messy, fun, and you can be imprecise. Baking (her specialty) is not so forgiving.

Chores, I think, are easier to teach but harder to enforce.
