Someone tell her condoms exist and it’s men’s job to buy and wear them. Prevention is both genders responsibility. If they make a pill for men I’ll happily take it.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•mine is Atlantis Word Processor, what's yours
5·7 months agoThe one reason I shamefully went back to dual booting is because of sim racing. Logitech wheels are the only ones with official Linux support, Fanatec has reverse engineered open source drivers but that’s about it, and as for the actual games a lot of them are unfortunately shaky or don’t run at all on Linux. ACC for example works without problem, while iRacing from what I recall is still technically possible to run, but will get you banned because its anti cheat doesn’t work.
Eggs are only good boiled, not fried or scrambled, I will die on that hill

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•How did a simple phone call become so problematic?
0·1 year agoPeople in the comments claiming it’s social anxiety but I have no problem talking to people face to face or in an internet-based voice or video call. But phone calls are just ass. The audio quality sucks, I barely understand what the other person says and I don’t get to choose when and where it happens, might be one or both people are in some noisy situation etc and it’s just all around so awkward. I also think it’s kinda rude. A message is “Hey I want to exchange X information, reply whenever you want”, a call is “YOU WILL PAY ATTENTION TO ME RIGHT NOW”. It’s also incredibly annoying when some official place insists on phone calls only. Fucking brilliant, now I have to take half an hour of my day queueing and/or calling repeatedly to get done what I would have typed out in half a minute as an email. It’s even worse if it’s them who call you. “You will get a call from us in the next 3 days”. Now I have to be on fucking high alert to be available at that exact time or the back and forth missed calls start. Instead of just receiving an email and replying whenever.
Edit: not to even mention that text is permanent and can be referenced later while calls are not
Also Luke Smith hasn’t uploaded in years now
Which he needs all the time and people are giving it to him. I’m so fucking done with seeing his face several times a day, maybe I should be touching grass instead
That’s what I’m thinking too but then remember my first corporate job where the application depended on an exact subversion of Java 8, no earlier and no later. This was in 2021. Knowing that company I’d bet they’re still rocking the same setup.
What about Steam? Linux gaming would be a whole lot worse off without Proton

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Flatpak haters seem to believe that if an app isn't on their distro's repos, it's the developers' fault.
3·2 years ago99% of the time it’s just “make && sudo make install” or something like that. Anything bigger or more complicated typically has a native package anyway.
I don’t know if people use it on desktop but with its minimal size it’s convenient as hell for docker images that don’t need a lot of dependencies installed

I don’t really get what people mean when describing Gnome or any DE as “out of the way”. I’ve never felt like KDE was “in my way”.

My IT teacher called the school’s general repair guy to fix her computer. He just flipped the power supply switch…
