Yeah my management was all gungho about exploiting AI to do all sorts of stuff.

Like read. Not generative AI crap, but read. They came to us and said quite literally: “how can we use something like ChatGPT and make it read.”

I don’t know who or how they convinced them to use something that wasn’t generative AI, but it did convince me that managers think someone being convincing and confident is correct all the time.

It’s not a hard problem to solve. It’s not hard to see the reasoning behind a desire for self driving cars. Anyone who lives outside of a big city in the US knows this.

Roads are already present. Traffic control is already present.

Tie the goddamn roads to the goddamn traffic control and have it coordinate the cars. The cars input their destination, and have radar to stop the car to prevent accidental collision.

The problem is people don’t like that they can’t get to their destination faster, they don’t have the freedom of choosing their exact route, and they can’t just rev their engine whenever they want.

It’s not mass transit, but it solves the final distance problem.

No, that is not how the ccTLD is enforced by IANA. It has sole authority, and it is not automatic is any way. There have been a total of two retired domains, one in like 95 and km 2000.

They will not retire a domain under heavy use such as .io.

That means the British Indian Ocean Territory will cease to exist, along with the .io domain and countless websites.

I don’t know why. The people marketing it have absolutely no understanding of what they’re selling.

Best part is that I get paid if it works as they expect it to and I get paid if I have to decommission or replace it. I’m not the one developing the AI that they’re wasting money on, they just demanded I use it.

That’s true software engineering folks. Decoupling doesn’t just make it easier to program and reuse, it saves your job when you need to retire something later too.
