  • I agree with you and have even more to add -

Even more fun fact - the taxpayer money that will likely eventually be used to rescue this person, potentially saving their life, is an infinitesimal waste compared to so very many other things. I’m not ever going to shame someone or expect them to be billed/prosecuted/etc for their rescue unless they criminally broke the law in order to arrive at that state. (and maybe not even then)

  • I desperately, desperately, hoped that Germans, Jews, and especially the few remaining holocaust survivors, could somehow articulate this in a way that would penetrate at some point during the past few years.

Nope. We are literally doomed to repeat it.

Without mentioning the name of the poster, I replied to a comment yesterday that said this:

The only reason I voted for him was because we’re on the brink of WW3 and I thought he was truly the last hope of getting the wars settled. I’m scared, and I’m sorry, but shit is crazy right now. Trump at least has some relations with Russia and North Korea, that could potentially cool the pot. Feel free to tell me why I’m wrong, I’m open to discussion.

This isn’t a world War (in name)

    Give it time.

I never thought I’d be living through, what I think of, as a major world event.

I’m an older X-er. I’ve had it up to here with major world events. Boring times. I want to live in BORING TIMES.

but the history books WILL likely bring up this period on the States. In what manner they’re mentioned, good, bad, or indifferent, is yet to be seen.

I feel very sure we can predict in what manner they will be mentioned. The question is how bad will it be.

  • I mean, yes, I’m sure there are people who do. There are people who think the earth is flat. They don’t influence policy though.

Edit - my point is, no one is coming for your testes, and knowing someone who thinks it’s a good idea is no better an example here than it would be for me to say I’m worried a flat earther is going to influence space exploration policy.

  • And if you decline that premise, and just say “I’m not sexist, I treat everyone the same despite gender” you are somehow lying and trying to hide your sexism, which makes you a bad person or something.

We all have implicit biases, this is undeniable. Denying this doesn’t make you a bad person, but you are denying reality. Having the biases doesn’t make you a bad person either - again we all do. But you can’t be mindful of them if you deny they exist.
