Telling people “use more ai” was always a profoundly stupid direction. “Ship more stuff faster, use AI if it helps, get paid the same” would be anti-labor but at least sensible.
If selling widgets the customer probably doesn’t care if you used a screwdriver or a drill. They just want their widget. Mandating drill usage is stupid.

I’m pissed they’re repaving the streets near me but they’re not taking the time to make them any safer. No curb extensions or daylighting. Certainly nothing so extreme as a separate bike lane.

I use keyword arguments in Python to minimize this pain. Instead of

JavaScript makes that more cumbersome with the object thing , but it’s better than nothing.

There’s also a mass illiteracy problem. I expect that’s part of why youtube et al are so popular - many people can’t read well. I think many of them don’t even realize they’re semi-illiterate, and think reading is just uncomfortable, and they don’t know why anyone would do it on purpose.
For very visual things, video can be understandable. “How do you do this jumping sequence in this game?” or “how do you assemble this doohickey?”

Watch YouTube and similar video. If I want to know something, I’d rather read something for 5 minutes than watch something for 15. Throw some illustrations or gifs in there if you need.
If I want to be entertained, I have many games and books. Or Lemmy to fuck around on.
If I was magically in charge, I would make it so if you got an unwanted text or call you report it and the phone company has to pay you like $10.
They don’t deal with this problem because they only care about profit.

It’s one of those self fueling problems. Businesses post on Instagram because people go there, and people go there in part because that’s where they found out about businesses doing stuff.

I don’t use any social media other than this. I find out about bands I like playing from their email lists or bandsintown. I’m on a couple “things happening in the city” email newsletters. It doesn’t demand my attention.
I really would like to somehow convince more people to adopt the idea that, like, Facebook and friends are run by bad people and you can choose not to use their products. Just stop. Find another way. Be uncomfortable for a little while.
