  • Apple is doing insane stuff with iMessage making SMS useless with Android. It is intentional manipulation. I’ve only seen it on some Apple kernels with the latest iPhone. My old man’s phone absolutely will not send or receive an SMS unless I message is manually turned off and then it won’t get iMessages. Apple has always been a shitty company, but this is next level insane. Just get and use the Signal app and ditch all the proprietary garbage and manipulative bs IMO.

  • That is all model loader code based stuff. You basically just need a bit of Python code that anyone can write, even you. You need to have a look at how the model must be addressed in format, then you find how the model loader code you are using creates the structured text and just insert your own modifications.

It is easier to add a second prompt window where you keep persistent information and just change it yourself. If you want the model to change that stuff, you need to look into building an agent.

I hacked around like this for awhile too, but evolved into using the notepad tab of Oobabooga Textgen WebUI and a Mixtral 8×7B model with a 32k context window. That model can deal with almost any detail you add in the context.

The thing is, the model may not feel satisfied with mundane and redundant details. Most of the time, believe it or not, those changes that you perceive as errors or inconsistencies are not actually errors. The model is fully aware that it is making those changes. There is usually an instruction about creativity, inspiration, or initiative that will cause the model to shift details like this.

My best recommendation is to openly discus the error in dialog with the model. They usually will talk about the issue if you call one out. Talking with AI is very different than with humans. Everything they say has meaning and functions beyond what is initially apparent. There are a lot of behaviors that involve certain patterns and keywords. You can even alter these behaviors by banning certain tokens/keywords. A good place to start is banning paragraph starting words for filler material. “So_” would be a good starting token to ban, as with AI, no sentence that starts with that token is worth reading. Other important words are twist, chuck, and cross. These are more flexible in their troublesome meaning and can manifest in multiple words like chuckles or across but still function the same inside the model.

If you get to this level of familiarity, the persistence of a storied interaction is more of a negotiation with the AI.

Another point of understanding is that the model does not know the difference between roleplaying characters it owns and you own or who is who. You or the model loader code is creating the name of the next character that the model generates for. Everyone in any story can be the model if it is asked to create the prompt.

So if I say, “Jake is super creative” or imply it somewhere in the prompt, and the model later thinks ‘Jake is rather bored and needs to be creative’ it is going to change something that satisfies that character profile even if it has never generated the output for character Jake.

    Hope that helps some

  • WiFi is a standard protocol. Russians are also clever with electronics. Gaining favor with the new guys is as easy as giving them an old phone. WiFi still works.

I don’t think most people fighting for Russia are super indoctrinated on the Russian side; opportunistic, morally corrupt, maybe, but not super jaded. Even if you’re fighting in dubious circumstances, the level of NK dystopian cult insanity is next level crazy. I can’t picture anyone that is around those guys being totally passive about the extent of bowdlerization and disinformation present in NK. Like you’ve got a bigger humanitarian obligation to show those kids that they are living in The Hunger Games IRL.

  • Do you always argue for your own perspective? I subtly indicated that this was not how I act, and I did not try to justify such behaviors. I simply stated a softening perspective of how people are a product of their environment and the perspective benefits of the present information age. It is adding real world abstracted complexity to something phrased in idealized binary simplicity that might make someone with a troubled childhood self-conscious or uncomfortable and instead bending perspective to nostalgia. It is a kindness with empathy for people I know that have changed and turned their life around, and for those with potential because binary labels and oversimplification can be harmful.

It was an age without outlets for information. If you wanted to have a chance at figuring out that secret sauce to get to the next level or beat that boss, there was magazine or back issue roulette. There was admitting you suck to your cooler richer friends to beg them to tell you how to beat it. There was the tiny chance that the official guide you had to special order might mention the thing. Then there was the dialup internet where loading to the nipples of a single image took longer than most boys, and by the time the whole image loaded 1 in 3 was holding a self serviced d-pad controller of their very own. Times were different, and so were the frustrations. If you wanted to learn, you went to the library on the other side of town. People read newspapers for information and it had classified-craigslist that was like paying Twitter by the word to try and sell your broken junk. Those of us that didn’t rage, blew on our cartridges like we were making a magical wish to a genie.

  • I’m not saying it is no big deal to regularly expose one’s self to it.

I know about how small of an amount can be smelled from building a power supply for a UV light, making mistakes, and yet still smelling the thing. It was back driving some circuit block that shouldn’t have been enough power to do anything, there was no visible effect, but I could still smell the faint smell of O3. Even with a tiny bulb, the smell is nearly instantaneous when the light is powered. Running one around anything that can rust is a bad idea. It is almost as bad as working with hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide as enchants; everything goes super rusty fast. I don’t get exposed to it regularly, so I’m not worried. Most hotel rooms smell pretty strongly of O3 in the many I have stayed in and that is probably the most that the average person gets exposed for any extended length of time. The alternative is probably worse, but still people don’t worry about that one too much.
