  • I’m your age and I’ve done it several times, including with my husband.

The caveat is that you start with coffee or a drink (my husband and I arranged to play mtg and have a beer), then the conversation is so nice that you order food or move from a cafe to a restaurant.

Now that I think about it, all the good relationships I’ve been in that weren’t with friends of mine involved dinner tacked onto the first date. When I’ve dated friends, it’s a very different progression, but doesn’t really involve restaurant dates at the beginning.

I also definitely would not eat there. I don’t know why it’s assumed that you would eat dinner there after being stood up. I’d be sad and I’d want to be alone, at absolute most I’d get takeout, but there’s probably a greasier takeout that I want, but have been restraining myself from. I’d very much prefer tacos/falafel to a date restaurant meal if I’ve just been stood up.

  • I had air conditioning growing up and my family tends to make desserts more in the winter.

The first summer living on my own, I made a beautiful blueberry pie, and the next morning I took it out of the microwave (to keep bugs away during the night- I have since learned this was also an idiosyncrasy from my parents. Most people just cover it) and it was already visibly moldy.

I’m glad I got a slice the first day, and I definitely learned a lesson but holy shit was it a surprise.

American living in Germany, working happily at a German bakery. Brötchen can be absolutely spectacular and I love German bread, but I still miss bagels. I’ve never had a good one here, but the ones you find in the grocery store are basically similar to grocery store bagels in the US(though sometimes they’re not boiled here, which explains why they might seem like Brötchen with a hole).

It’s honestly similar to good Laugengebäck, just without the taste of lye (Lauge), which makes sense. If that’s not appealing to you, sure, but my homemade bagels (which are good but not spectacular, compared to some bagels I’ve had) have always been a hit among the Germans I’ve made them for.

  • No, not at all, it’s the safest life available to them, in terms of likelihood for disease and life expectancy.

If you really want prison, it’s available to you and you do get food and medical care free.

Herbivores still get bored and try to escape, so they probably don’t love it.

I would love a source that they don’t though. It’s my understanding that that’s why zoos are hard to run.
