  • Caramelization is the process of sugars browning due to high heat. The actual reactions that are happening is a combination of sugars and their chains breaking down into smaller compounds and those smaller compounds recombining into other compounds, all these new compounds gives caramelized foods their distinctive colour and taste.

When making caramel the sugar liquification happens often in high enough temperatures for caramelization to occur. The process of sauteeing/high temperature cooking onions long enough involves the same exact reactions. In onions the bit longer chain sugars that dont taste sweet are broken down into simple sugars thus producing the sweet taste of caramelized onions and the further reactions produce the caramel colour and taste.

Tldr: caramelization is a group of chemical reactions and ‘caramel’ is basically a taste and colour that results from it

  • Feels like too many phones try to be something special but are afraid to fully commit as fully committing would make the phone look different than your typical phone and often with tradeoffs in other areas. When i got my phone i got it because it has a huge battery(21000mAh) that lasts about 5 days on my regular (quite heavy) use and it is fully waterproof (rated for heated pressure washing and i have tested that it can easily survive being underwater in a hot tub, i also have a habit of sometimes washing the screen with water and soap). The tradeoffs are that it’s built like a brick, weighs half a kilogram and all headphone jacks don’t fit the port because the waterproofing requires the port to be recessed.

That phone just seems like your regular phone with an above average battery

  • Something in this quote triggered the meme that you can say anything and just attribute it to some famous dead person and people will assume it’s true. So i did the right thing and googled and it turns out the quote is at least mostly right. As i found it with my googling is: “As soon as the land of any country has all become private property, the landlords, like all other men, love to reap where they never sowed and demand a rent even for its natural produce.” -Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations, book 1, chapter VI I think that leaving out the “like all other men” might misrepresent the actual thoughts of adam smith a bit without proper markings i am still happy that i spent 20 minutes of my life fact checking a random comment on the internet.
