It was a fun way to pass the night shift. I would do 2 or 3 twelve hour log sheets per shift, over the course of a few years. Yep! Well, not mine. Owned by a massive German company. But I worked there for several years, and reported on the weirdness my coworker/friend and I experienced in a funny and lighthearted way. One of the reasons I don’t think I can recreate it, though, is that I have a terrible memory. I can recall the broad strokes (the freakishly large beetles, the weekend hauntings, et cetera, et cetera), but there were characters in it based on coworkers and clients and I don’t think I can recreate those anywhere near accurately.

I’d argue that’s still the case, and always has been, and likely always will be. I don’t think there’s a larger number of evil people intent on harming hitchhikers, just that it is a dangerous habit and the cases that end violently are the only ones that make the news. It’s more that we’re better educated about it now, and so less people are willing to hitch or pick up hitchhikers now

Sadly not. Probably the best thing I’ve ever written. Several hundred pages. But they were written on old security log sheets (written as log entries while bored doing night shift security at a warehouse), and they ended up lost or destroyed when I moved. I’ve considered rewriting them, though.

It’s not about productivity. If that were the real goal then the entire system would be structured radically differently, given what we know now through actual research. The real goal is ensuring that workers do not have ample time or energy to collectively organize. Make sure they don’t have the time to even think about anything else, and you ensure they damn sure don’t have the time to rebel. The other goal is ensuring there are a significant number of unemployed people in terrible enough conditions to make them desperate, but not so terrible that they are incapable of working. That way if s few stray workers get a bug up their ass about organizing and striking, there’s a reserve army of labor in the homeless and unemployed communities that can step in and scab.

My only British friend is apolitical (and a bit of a dumbass, if I’m being honest). What’s brexit like for your average Brit? I can’t imagine having the right to just move (almost) anywhere in Europe and getting that ripped away from me, but I’ll admit, I don’t really know any of the other repercussions of leaving the EU.

Same. I try to keep a routine nowadays. Whack it before bed, as I am very single, and that’ll keep me out trouble most of the next day. Occasionally there’s one in the morning if there was a particularly spicy dream or something, but that’s about it
