Eh, for desktop I’d say we’re just about there now. For people who don’t use their computers for much more than gaming and web browsing Bazzite works pretty great. Helped a friend who doesn’t do much more than that build a PC and install an OS and they seem to be doing fine with it, no complaints so far.
You win some, you lose some ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean in general, “read things -> learn” is a good approach to life imo.
currycourier@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•how do i stop being so obsessed with a fictional character?1·2 months agoI watched this video essay on this topic not too long ago that I really enjoyed (one of the best video essays I’ve seen so far imo) that I think you might find really helpful and insightful as well! If you end up watching it, let me know what you think: https://youtu.be/4d0Q64SQujY
So in other words, gamers are rising up?
Yes, exactly. Its killing problem solving ability and learning. Taking the extra time to search around and figure things out helps you learn. Not to mention its poisoning its own well, making legitimate answers harder and harder to find on the web.
I don’t think its a matter of stowing empathy as much as it is redirecting your energy. I still empathize with those people, but I try to focus energy on my immediate life and the people around me, and thinking about how I can help and improve their lives, support them best, etc. rather than doom scrolling and despairing. Because with the people directly around me I can have a much more tangible impact. I’d like to work up to having a more systemic impact too, but I’m still figuring out that part. But I think its helpful to have a solid base to work from first, you know?

A damn nice house, too
Why are people downvoting someone for admitting they made a mistake? It takes some courage to do that.
currycourier@lemmy.worldto memes@lemmy.world•I believe to this day that he bribed the IQ test5·6 months agoI mean for what its worth emotional intelligence (recognizing everyone hates you and just wants your money) is a whole different thing. That said, I’m pretty sure he’s just an idiot in general too. Maybe smarter than the average person, but certainly not three standard deviations smarter.
I mean Trump obviously is, its not exactly hard to see from how he talks and acts. You can also see from his tax records how he has managed to consistently lose money over decades as one of the worst businessmen ever. When you have that much money you can make more by just hiring a financial planner to invest it in the market for you. Instead he managed to lose money investing in a casino? Thats honestly kind of impressively dumb.
Elon might be smarter than the average person, but that isn’t saying much when over half the US cannot read at a sixth grade level. He certainly isn’t the genius that people make him out to be.
I mean they’re not mutually exclusive though. They can be both morons and evil.
Interesting, was it always that way for you? I feel like for me with books printed on paper I’m actually a lot less picky but for e-readers (or any text on a screen really) the kerning, text size, etc. matters a lot more. The impact is definitely more pronounced for regular screens than e-ink though. Text size I find has the biggest impact on readability on screens for me in general.
Isn’t UPenn actually just Ivy League?
It costs money and the upsides are more than a quarter away :(
I have this saved on my phone as a “quick troubleshooting guide”
