You can sell out on anything, no matter how unpopular it is, if you don’t make enough of them. How many of these things did they actually make?

I would prefer it not be owned by Google as well, though that wouldn’t really change the economics of the situation.
No ads so far here but I definitely will cancel Premium if I start seeing ads. That’s literally the only thing I’m paying for.
Yeah exactly. Not having 3 grand is no obstacle for them to get you to lose 3 grand!
It’s the economy. Look at the numbers for voters without a college degree, rural voters, and lower income voters. Trump won all of these groups. In the WaPo exit polls the issues are included, not just the demographics. For voters who think the economy is the most importantly issue and for voters who think the US economy is doing badly: Trump dominated.
The Democrats continue to fail at shedding their reputation for being out of touch with working class Americans. The only income bracket that Harris won was the $100,000+ group. This tells us that the Democrats are an upper middle class and upper class party.
Influencers are the tail that thinks they’re wagging the dog. When they aren’t shilling garbage products and cryptoscams they’re spending all their time trying to find the next trend to chase. Besides the shilling, at their worst they’re merely a sounding board for ideas and issues that are already out there (and have been for a long time).
The biggest mistake the Democrat campaign made was to ignore the plight of working class, non-college educated people. To a group that’s been reeling from inflation and the major setback of COVID lockdowns, the Democrats promised more of the same. That’s not good enough! What good is student loan forgiveness to people who never went to college?
That’s been the problem for the Democrats for decades now. A party that used to call labour unions its base now focuses pretty much exclusively on college-educated middle class and up.
I just had a look at the exit polls. Of the people who said the economy was the most important use, 79% voted for Trump. Of those who think the US’s economy is doing not so good/poor (67% of voters), 69% voted for Trump.
I know lots of people here will sneer at that and Trump seems pretty unlikely to right the ship but he actually promised change whereas the Democrats did not. Promising to keep things the same when 2/3 of voters believe the economy is poor is not going to get the job done.
Tomatoes are about 95% water, 1% fibre, and 4% other carbs (sugars and starches). Even with no added sugar, any tomato sauce is basically all carbs and sugar (if you ignore the water).
Even though we think of tomatoes as a vegetable they’re actually a fruit. Eating a whole bunch of tomato sauce is not much different from eating a bunch of pureed strawberries. Tomatoes just don’t taste as sweet as the strawberries because because they’re more acidic.
I love everything about this! Such a badass grandma!
How often do you use it, if not every day? Once a week? Once a month?
I use my laptop every day so it makes sense that I don’t use the power button even though it’s right there. I also have a raspberry pi set up to run Retropie that I only turn on once or twice a year when I have an old friend in from out of town. In that case I use the power button every single time but I don’t mind that it’s kind of finicky (I have to turn on several other devices with it as well as a power strip to power them all) because I don’t use it that often.
I could see the new Mac Mini being a bit annoying with its bottom side power button if you’re using it every other day. But honestly I would be more annoyed at the boot time taking 30s than the 2s it takes to reach under the case and power it up. If I had one I would probably just get the keyboard with built in power button and finger print reader though. I use the finger print reader on my laptop all the time because it unlocks my password manager.
How often do you use the power button to turn on your computer? These days I might use it once a year, at most!
Especially if you plant open pollinated varieties which are true to seed. So nice being able to save seeds and get more plants next year for free! Doesn’t work with everything but it does work with a lot!
And now I’m just picturing myself cracking open a can of beer only for bees to start flying out!
I don’t think it matters much what we want, it’s what we do that counts. What are humans doing? We’re causing a mass-extinction event that puts us in the same camp as Cyanobacteria, the ice ages, the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs, etc.
Well you have to be deliberate about it. You need to actually practice the language outside of watching the shows/movies. But the content you’re watching is a strong motivator to continue learning. And then one day you turn the subtitles off!
Oh this is really cool. I didn’t know that! So foreign films brought to Poland are spoken over with a Polish translator, just like you’d have at the UN? That way you can hear the original actors and the translated dialogue in Polish?
How does this work for trying to learn a new language? I have heard of many people learning English by watching English movies and TV shows with subtitles in their own language. This allows them to listen to English and slowly start to pick up English words while still being able to understand what’s happening due to the subtitles. I myself am learning Chinese and I occasionally watch cooking videos in Chinese with English subtitles and find myself gradually picking up the Chinese words as I hear them.
I think this technique probably works best with shows and movies written for children, as those have much simpler dialogue to begin with.
Don’t think about how the average person acts towards insects, think about how a farmer does. Plow the field, plant crops, fertilize, spray pesticides.
An alien civilization far in advance of our own which has travelled the stars and colonized millions of planets would just scour all life from the planet (while perhaps sucking up the genetic information into a database) and then reform the biosphere to suit their own needs, siphoning up all the mineral and energy resources they need as well.
Yeah so the feature actually sounds completely useless against a determined adversarytiser. At the very least, apps should have no way of knowing whether notifications are turned on, including no means of knowing whether a notification was displayed or not.
App stores should also make a policy of banning apps that don’t explicitly keep all their ads in an advertising channel.
Are apps able to lie though? Say, by putting ads into the same channel as essential notifications?
The worst is when an otherwise great app does that! And they also send really important notifications too, so you can’t just disable notifications!
I’d be wary of calling him guilty by association. Maybe when he realized who he was really hanging out with he was so horrified and disgusted that he just had to get involved and do something to fight back?
