There are alternatives for the people who make money off the YouTube.
The Youtubers who do get paid enough to make a living from YouTube also make production quality content and have great gear and staff. They might as well sell their production to any other streaming service.
Something like Veritasium might as well be on Netflix as YouTube. Mr.Beast would fit in on Mtv…
At what point do content creators stop creating content for this?
I think of it as finished software. It’s the MS Paint or Notepad for sound. No development necessary.
The only reason I’ve used it is because Adobe bought CoolEdit and started “developing” it, a.k.a.: Turned it into paid bloatware and changed the name to Audition. So, I found Audacity which is free, small, to the point and quick to use.
If you do need more features you’d probably be better off switching to something else in the first place.
I think it’s fairly optimistic to believe that they’ll stop bugging you with the Windows 11 upgrade even if you do pay $30.
Well it isn’t 6.
From Wikipedia:
In 2002, lecturers and students from the University of Plymouth MediaLab Arts course used a £2,000 grant from the Arts Council to study the literary output of real monkeys. They left a computer keyboard in the enclosure of six Celebes crested macaques in Paignton Zoo in Devon, England from May 1 to June 22, with a radio link to broadcast the results on a website. Not only did the monkeys produce nothing but five total pages largely consisting of the letter “S”,the lead male began striking the keyboard with a stone, and other monkeys followed by urinating and defecating on the machine
Mike Phillips, director of the university’s Institute of Digital Arts and Technology (i-DAT), said that the artist-funded project was primarily performance art, and they had learned “an awful lot” from it. He concluded that monkeys "are not random generators. They’re more complex than that
forced into an echo chamber.
Yes, it does that.
Using YouTube on a new account or through one of the alternatives will result in a wildly different feed. I was recently shocked by seeing the default non-curated feed on YouTube.
Absolutely none of the content was interesting to me; most of it was directly anger inducing political crap or just plain brainrot. I would definitely not visit that shit page ever again if the default feed was my first impression. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a right wing breeding ground by now, but it sure isn’t as balanced as I would have expected.
My regular YT feed is obviously much more interesting to me, and I can use it to find new content, but since I don’t want to wait for the ads, I now only watch my own subscriptions on a different frontend, which of course will create an even smaller echo chamber.
I get how a curated feed can benefit the user, but YouTube is just not making it possible. It will only show (rage) engaging content and without the dislike function, you can only decide not to watch the crap or get shown more crap until you do like it.
This is clearly a “why not both” situation.
Emissions must be cut and new technologies for reversing existing damage must be developed. There’s a whole bunch of different things that needs doing, because there is simply no single solution, but using one approach to argue against another is certainly not helping anyone.
These kits do come with step by step manuals, but one of the reasons to get one in the first place is to modify it. It makes sense to figure out what each part does, instead of following a manual.
Dice the apples. That’s a common way to do it for curry meatballs (curry sauce with meatballs served with rice and various toppings).
The apples make the sauce more filling and offsets some of the potential sourness of the onions/curry. It is all about the balance. I like to taste the sauce to perfection using salt, pepper, curry, sugar or syrup before adding the meatballs, but having apples in the sauce definitely makes it easier to begin with.
Yes, one builds on top of the other. That’s how it works ideally.
It is however easier to get workers to unite when there’s no legal minimum to fall back on. Also, when the majority of workers are unionized, the legal minimum is irrelevant and only serves as a talking point against the actual negotiations.
Minimum wage makes sense in countries where unions can’t get a foothold, but it’s a double edged sword: It’s keeping unions from establishing, because a lot of people will gladly leave their negotiations up to the politicians and not risking sticking their nose out.
Quite a lot of the things that people take for granted now started as union contracts. Paid holidays, working hours being less han 80h/week, maternity/paternity/family leave, sick leave/pay, paid breaks, paid pension etc.etc.
NONE of that happened due to political parties feeling a need to require employers to pay out more or secure the working class… Never happened.
It might be elevated to law in some countries by now, but it always always started with unions demanding it and going to conflict over it.
Even when the conflicts failed, it made the premises for putting it into law. That is how working hours have decreased. Unions wanted it, didn’t get it at first, but still got it second time around, when the notion hit the government workers, making it necessary to lift the idea into law to keep functioning.
Without unions, we’d still be shoveling coal into a furnace 80 hours a week, because that’s what made financial sense for the business owners.
It’s notable that the countries with no legal minimum wage are also those with the highest wages. That’s because these countries have replaced laws with collective agreements. This goes to show that united workers can create better results than politicians.
It’s a really unfortunate effect of minimum wage. It turns into maximum wage, because employers can point at a minimum wage and say “hey I already pay you 0.01€ more than minimum, go back to work and be thankful”, whereas union wages are based on constant negotiation and actual statistics of what is paid in the market.
I really don’t want my wage to be determined on country-wide politics. In my opinion, it’s much more logical to let each sector determine it for themselves. Especially in times like this where right wing parties are gaining influence due to immigration issues. Why would I have to take a pay cut, because a lot of old people are afraid of immigrants? It makes no sense. Issues like that make people vote against their own interest.
The best way to put a value on work is by letting the people in the sectors decide. Both sides of the table of course. But just not political.
(I do realize that union agreements are also political in that both employers and enployee unions are democratic, but at least it’s confined to that topic and to that sector.)
How fast can it stop? I wouldn’t want to first heading against a crossing or wall with 49 people pushing the pedals behind me.
Many places have roads markers every 100m. Or you can count the seconds from any fixed point and figure it out.
It’s a $20000 fee for being served “first” and a “LasEr-cUt BADge”
I remember the 80s or early 90s, where there were phonebooks in pay phone booths. The first or last pages were maps of the local area and an index of street names, so if you needed to find “groove street” it would be on map 5 section F3.
A lot of home owners in Florida can’t get insurance.
It would be nice if they would stop pushing the update on computers that can’t run the update anyway.
Everyone ought to try driving somewhere they haven’t been before without bringing gps or even printed maps.
Look at a country/state map to get an idea of the general direction beforehand, but then otherwise just drive there and follow the signs as you get closer.
Chad Caruso did it last year using just one set of wheels. New record too (57 days).
