Horse battery staple moment
Are you even reading the messages you reply to? Can I get an unrelated rant too?
It’s gonna suck so hard for the whole world when they get invaded :(
The JavaScript (code) engine that powers Chrome is the same JavaScript (code) engine that powers Node servers. Node is used to power a large portion of web applications and internal corporate tools. The Chromium/Node project is under the tight control of Google engineers.
Well in this case if you have access to a computer for enough time to become a journalist that writes about LLMs you have enough time to read a 3-5 paragraph description of how they work. Hell, you could even ask an LLM and get a reasonable answer.
No, projecting emotions onto a machine is inherently stupid. It’s in the same category as people reading feelings from crystals (because it’s literally the same thing).
Same JS engine, same maintainers, same iron-grip control by Google.
Maybe as a whole package, but node.js servers are ubiquitous and have a ton of stakeholders that have nothing to do with web browsers.
I’ve worked in the aftermath of DoJ agreements like this one. The DoJ is not stupid (or at least didn’t used to be) and will have stipulations about removing Google employees from governance/write permissions to the project, with follow up check-ins every few months to make sure any shenanigans aren’t occurring.
…none of that matters though now that the DoJ is going to be dissolved.
You forgot the unrelated rant in the middle about toasters being too dark these days or some shit.
Wow whoever wrote that is weapons-grade stupid. I have no more hope for humanity.
I have a vague memory of seeing this in the mid-late 2000’s
lol they already won that political chess. You still have to pay a connection fee and a transmission fee and a lawsuit settlement fee and an environmental remediation fee, even if you use 0 kW/h. Also with the NEM 3 plan if you have any excess solar generation you give it to them at about 1/10th the price that they will sell to you during the same time of day.
Edit: I exaggerated unfairly, it’s like 1/8th the price. Also for the people who adopted solar early and were promised a 25 year contract (called NEM 2) they can now magically alter the deal and change the way that credits are calculated despite the 25-year guarantee that was made.
Edit 2: did you know our governor is a large shareholder of stock in our utility company? The same one that has the power to appoint people to the board that is supposed to regulate the “private” utility? America is doing great.
They’ll just bust out the old tapes and get another round of use out of that old code.
My electrical utility (PG&E) advertises all the time. Like what am I gonna do, not buy electricity? It’s so obviously just a bribe to the media companies.
Things can go wrong unexpectedly during pregnancy. For example I just hosted a party on the weekend after Halloween and one of my friends was totally fine and having a good time, then suddenly in the middle of the night after the party she woke up in excruciating pain and bleeding heavily so went to the ER. It turns out she had an ectopic pregnancy, and was able to get the treatment she needed and is still alive instead of bleeding to death in the parking lot of the hospital.
Imagine if you suddenly couldn’t move between states.
This has already become reality for all the women I know that are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
If you’re gonna get another browser, why not cut out the middleman and just use TOR Browser directly?
Anyone who has an idea of what risk mitigation is viable will NEVER phrase it that way for obvious reasons
Those reasons aren’t obvious to me at all. Can you expand on this?
Thank you for your service. o7
