Don’t forget that after he shot someone in the face, he made them make a public apology for getting shot in the face.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•The NEO robot. I only can see this as a bad idea. What do you think?
7·2 months agoLooks like the beginning to a Black Mirror episode.
That’s the FDR memorial, not the white house, but the sentiment is the same.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How the hell are there already shirts, hats and even jerseys made for the winning teams of some championships?
5·2 months agoAll the merch is created before the games in the U.S. has both teams winning. The merch for the losing team is sent as a “donation” to poorer countries, but it’s basically just to get it out of the U.S. because they don’t want it being sold here.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•And I thought it would be a happy ending for the kid
11·4 months agoIt’s from 2021. The kid did make the fake Nintendo from a box, but he wasn’t given a cease and desist letter, he wasn’t sued by Nintendo, and he also didn’t receive a Nintendo. Nothing else happened.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The P in HIPAA stands for portability, not privacy
14·4 months agoGeneral public: I’m going to make wild assumptions about something I don’t know anything about, and also spend 0 time verifying if my assumptions are correct.

The first paragraph:
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is an Act passed in 1996 that primarily had the objectives of enabling workers to carry forward healthcare insurance between jobs, prohibiting discrimination against beneficiaries with pre-existing health conditions, and guaranteeing coverage renewability multi-employer health insurance plans.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a regional pronunciation of a word that seems normal to you but is weird to people from other parts of the country?
2·5 months agoI live in the U.S., and my state capitol is spelled Pierre, but pronounced “peer”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you microwave water for tea?
1·5 months agoIf you’re using distilled water there’s not enough minerals in the water to start the boiling process before the temperature crosses 100 C because microwaves heat it up so fast.
It also doesn’t necessarily have to be distilled water, but the the closer it is to just H2O, the higher the chance this will happen.
I didn’t grow up in Wyoming but it was a rural state in the U.S. People romanticize rural areas until they actually live in one. If if you have a large town nearby and and your wealthy, or at least upper middle class it might be ok, but I’d highly recommend staying where you are.
It’s not just the medical care, it’s the culture. When you move to a rural area, if you aren’t at least the 3rd generation you’ll be looked at and treated as an outsider. That doesn’t mean people will be hostile towards you, but you won’t really be part of the community either.
The entertainment, food, and shopping options are also be very limited.
Edit: “recommend staying where you are”

2·7 months agoYou don’t know anyone who figures out their village before having kids…but childfree people are the selfish ones. Yeah, that makes sense.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I a dick if I don't want to meet an old friend for coffee if she brings her babies along?
5·7 months agoExactly this. People will have kids then expect other people to help out because “it takes a village”. Fuck that, figure out who’s willing to be in your village, THEN have kids.
