The photo was posted to Reddit at least a year ago, and was apparently from an English pub that wanted to sell ‘real’ pub snacks again. The roll cost something like £1.50, where most snacks like this go for around £5 or more.

There was a big discussion on the landlord’s chopping skills, but he claimed that it was really popular 👍

On a side note, I’d really enjoy that roll, as long as it’s got a bit of butter so it’s not too dry 🙂

I know a few older people who have smartphones, and while they can use things like Twitter or Facebook on the phone, if you told them that you were installing an app, they wouldn’t know what you meant.

They’re the type of people who were never interested in computers, and used them as appliances, possibly never needing to install things themselves. As they moved to phones, they either get their kids or the shop to set them up.

They understand using Twitter on the phone, but don’t really understand the concept of how it works.

I don’t know, you can get Photoshop and Lightroom for £10 a month, which is very cheap when you compare it to a night out or a takeaway, and at the moment, they’re better than the equivalents.

I do need to have another look at DaVinci Resolve though. I’ve heard loads of good things about it, but it was overkill for what I needed when I last tried it :)

Just remember that you might not see anything with the naked eye, but a camera will pick up the colour. Last time, I was able to get out, and once my eyes were used to the dark, I could see faint grey lines and waves in the sky :)

I’m not sure about things like changing timetables. I know that a lot of places have published timetables that can be added to OSM, but I don’t know if they can be automatically updated or if they would have to be done manually.

In case you haven’t already seen it, MapComplete has a cycling layer that lets you add details to the map. The data is added to OpenStreetMap, so it benefits everyone too 🙂

Street Complete has a map with an overlay that looks kind of like the Pokemon Go map, but it has lots of different icons where it needs more data. Tapping an icon will give you a question based on the icon type, and will be something like ‘what is the road surface here’, or what is the number of this building '.

It’s pretty easy to use, and if you don’t know the answer, or are not confident about answering it, you don’t have to.

Like you say, with OpenStreetMap itself, you don’t get questions and you add things directly to the map manually. It can sound complicated, but you can do anything from adding a single node (a dot) and marking it as the tree in the town square, to drawing a box and labeling it as a building, all the way up to adding bus routes and power lines, like one person on the Discord is doing around Wales at the moment.

As long as the thing actually exists on the ground, you can add it to OSM, and you can do as much or as little as you like. Any detail is better than no detail 👍

StreetComplete is another good app for adding details to the map, and it lets you select the type of things you want to add 👍

That being said, I hate the formatting of most forums. Reddit and Lemmy’s comment nesting is excellent. It’s very easy to follow conversations.

You could set that up on a lot of forums, you just had to select threaded view in the settings 👍

Depending on what you’re doing, Krita is worth a look. I gave it a go for cropping and lightly editing some photos recently, and then tried their version of the clone stamp tool. It’s hidden under the brushes presets, but worked better than the Photoshop tool 👍

Be careful with MediaMonkey, it can incorrectly change your files.

I’ve got dozens, if not hundreds of songs where it’s changed the track number to the play count, and I’ve got a load where it’s decreased the volume by a significant amount, presumably as part of the volume leveling function.

I don’t use anything else to play or manage my music, and nothing has permission to affect it this way.

Strongly disagree. I’m using SwiftKey, and the prediction has been awful for the last year or so. It constantly tries to force sentences on me and gives me multiple repeated words.

As an example, typing that last sentence, every time I started a word with ‘m’, it suggested ‘more’ and ‘more than’. If I long press and tell it not to suggest ‘more than’, then select ‘more’, the next suggested word is ‘than’.

I find that it often repeats the selected word too. Earlier I typed something like ‘I did it last year’ and the next suggestions were ‘year’ and ‘year ago’.

Microsoft have shoehorned a predictive AI into SwiftKey, and it doesn’t work properly.

The island is tiny, and only has about half a dozen houses on it. The visitors are there because it’s a nature reserve, so generally don’t want to be on their phones anyway. It’s not worth setting up a relay station over just telling everyone before they get there.

This time last year I stayed on Bardsey Island, off the Welsh Coast. There’s hardly any phone signal on the island, but they warned everyone to turn off roaming on their phones anyway. It turns out that because of the mountain on the island blocking the signal from the UK, lots of phones automatically connect to Irish providers, and cost more than people expect
