That’s my philosophy.

I was on call 24/7 for years. It’s been a long time since I had to deal with that (with a slide into a related career rather than changing careers) but I will never forget how terrible it was. I wasted what should have been my best years on that shit.

Now there’s only one person at work who has my number. He doesn’t call except for the one time I forgot to put my day off on the calendar. My work apps are paused at 5pm and all weekend. I only get alerts on my computer. However, I still twitch sometimes when my phone goes off after hours because it was a learned and deeply reinforced response for so many years.

Been using Thunderbird for almost 20 years. It was good enough that long ago and it’s pretty awesome these days.

I stopped in today after months because my friend is launching a game and I wanted to give them a like and a comment. When I left Twitter my feed was just nerd shit and makers.

When I logged in today it was several right wing advertisements at the top. When I went to search it was more Trump shit. I just wanted to support my indie friend. That’s it for me.

I’ve got a friend who was slightly too old when the word yeet became popular. He decided he would use it confidently, often, and incorrect. He still does.

He’s excited to embarrass his kids by doing that with whatever the current slang is when they are 12 or 13.

I’ve had DataTraveller sticks since the late 90s/early 00s. Never given me a problem.

Also in Texas and I was surprised at the line for early voting when I went. Usually I just walk in and walk out because there’s no one there before election day.

Some states (I want to say Mississippi?) have no early voting and only absentee ballots with a good excuse. So yeah, a federal holiday or some provision for time off to vote would be awesome.

We’ve got the tamale guy around where I live now. He’s such a big deal that during hurricane Harvey my buddy found him at Buc-ees between here and Dallas, put up a public Facebook post about it, and ended up with his most liked and shared post ever. It was a blow to his self esteem because he couldn’t get nearly so many likes about his band playing a benefit after Harvey.

Re: the meat van story

For years there was a guy who delivered mid grade meats from something that looked like an ice cream truck to our town when I was growing up in the 80s. I think it was Swanson’s but I’m not positive about that because we were far too poor to buy delivery meat. It was a legitimate business, though. One day he stopped delivering. A few months later he was back to delivering except he was no longer in the ice cream looking truck and the meat was no longer in branded packages. He was driving an unbranded white delivery van and it obviously became his home business.

He would deliver for a few months, disappear, then start again. That lasted until the mid 00’s when my parents moved to a different small shitty town nearby. He could still be doing it for all I know.

I think it’s insane that there’s more than one dude riding around delivering meat unaffiliated with any business.

When the judicial system fails us, what is the answer? When there are a bunch of judges on the list that are protected by other judges what should we do?

I’m not saying the answer is vigilantism or even violence. I just don’t know the answer and I’m so fucking tired of the system failing when it’s people who should be held to a higher standard or people with money but ruining the lives of poor and middle class people who made a single mistake.

I think a lot of people get agnostic twisted, but I’m not one to gatekeep people’s beliefs so they can do what they like. I think a lot of folks would file me under atheism pretty quickly if I started talking, except I ain’t really talking.

Sorry to dump this out here, but I have dealt with this shit since I was a teen and I’m mad tonight about some other shit.

That’s because they think everyone who isn’t hardcore christian is unhappy and questioning their choices every day, just waiting on god to help.

I’m hard agnostic. That doesn’t mean I’m questioning. That means I believe that we can’t possibly know any more than a bacteria can fathom what I am. They’re convinced that means I’m not sure if their god exists and I desperately want them to show me the light.

You know how I know what they think? It’s how I was raised. It’s the literal words that came out of their mouths. Luckily it’s been years since anyone other than a Jehovah’s Witness tried to convert me to anything and I just tell them “I think god is dead so I’m trying to get on Satan’s good side by having sex outside of marriage and killing. Which do you prefer?”

It would absolutely work with pork chops. It’s even better with a walnut crust.
