Secret Music 🎵 [they/them]

What secret music do I hear
Upon the drums of my ear

What great pleasure I feel
I come from nowhere and I shall return
Because of you people I will flee
I see my late identity burn

  • Why do you need someone or something else to do this work for you?

Lmao way to turn that on me, good one. I’m literally talking about the people who can’t just scroll past or block something without needing to act like it was forced on them. The people who campaign to cancel Netflix over 1 show out of 1000s that they could’ve just scrolled past. The people who live in an era where you can follow exactly what you want online, and watch and listen to exactly what you want on streaming, but still complain about having the wOkE aGeNdA shoved down their throats because they’re incapable of wiping their asses (or they think it’s gay).

Trust me, I’m not the one with the problem of inserting my business everywhere that I don’t belong. I’m not going anywhere near incel forums, or manosphere support groups, or to tell people how fucking stupid their hobbies are. And knowing these people, I’d get banned quickly if I did because they’re the biggest pearl clutchers of all. This problem is entirely one sided and caused by certain types of people who are more emboldened than ever these days.

  • Personally I think that this Reddit style is an upgrade design wise. And as far as recognising people goes, I’m using an app that lets you tag users (Summit) and this has gone quite a long way. It’s also made the start paying attention to other usernames to an extent, so if I notice that someone often posts content that vibes with me or whatever, I can give them a ⭐ or something.

What I do miss from the days when forums were dominant is that people stayed in their lanes a little more. A particular forum or board or even thread is for a particular topic, and people who derailed or came along just to insult and shit on everything were dealt with, without this crying about ‘free speech’.

Current day social media has spawned a bunch of people who feel entitled to say whatever they want to whoever they want in any space they want, and cry about blue haired SJWs or something if there’s consequences. And they act like the internet used to be this place where forum moderators didn’t rule with an iron fist, or like the ‘real world’ is somewhere that you can behave this way without being punched in the face.

I just think a lot of problems could be solved if jocks went back to discussing sportsball and cars and stayed in their lanes, instead of considering themselves to be experts on biology and sociology and vaccines. There’s a fine line between ‘free speech’ and letting the inmates run the asylum, and the last 10 years have proven that.

Basically what I miss from the forum days is that back then, the conspiracy theorist idiots would’ve probably been banned, and would’ve stayed in the fringes of society instead of going mainstream.

  • To be cliche, probably the Bethesda style character creation, just because you can tweak so much. That’s probably the best I’ve got because my current laptop is a potato and Skyrim is about the most intensive that it can (barely) handle.

A huge issue I have with it though, is that after all that tweaking and fine tuning of your character, you can’t save or load templates. So sometimes I’ll spend ages creating a character, start the same and play for a bit, then for whatever reason decide to start again an hour later (regrettable choice, a faulty mod etc.), and now I have to create a character all over again. At that point I just choose basics and hit play.

This is an annoyance to me in all games with character creation though. Even something simpler like Stardew Valley, especially if you’re trying to get the colours just right.

If you’re going to give us the ability to create and fine tune personalized characters, let us save and load them, god damnit.

  • Yeah to be completely honest, I would have good intentions but also probably leave this world a burning wreck afterwards. To use the latest movie for an example, I would probably be part Superman and part Hawkgirl. I would be trying to do good but also I’m not an alien trying to get people to accept me and like me, I’m a native that’s sick of this shit. So I would also be dropping certain people from high places.

And I definitely wouldn’t not interfere with world politics. I’ve even thought about it. My first move before introducing myself to the world would be to find where all the nukes are, and hit everywhere as quickly as possible and leave them on the moon or something until I figure out what to do with them. Then I would get all of the ‘strong’ men and nazis and religious despots and traitors of the free world together in front of cameras and make a human centipede out of them without any surgery, and without a mouth or backside so that it’s just an ouroborous of its own shit.

Then I would just stick to crime fighting and ruining Lex Luthor’s day and shit and keep an eye as people chose new leaders. And if leaders that aren’t there to serve the people start taking over again, it’s ouroborous of shit time again. Or something worse.

  • Sounding more like a Snyderman fan than a Superman fan, to be honest. An elseworld story now and then, or an edgelord deconstruction or two is great but the fantasy is that Superman has all this power but still uses it for good.

Turning into a dictator is weak and easy shit. It’s probably what every fucking manosphere clown would do. While going “don’t blame me, it’s just my biology! Hurr durr! I’m simultaneously logic and rational and superior but also a fucking ape that can’t control myself! Hurr durr.”

What makes Superman special is that he has all of this power but still has actual morals and values and empathy without the only thing holding him back being the law.

  • Yeah this one could be satirical. Although it’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference these days. And also, history has taught me that people who spend a lot of time making ‘jokes’ about it, often turn out to be only half joking. Like how online circlejerk communities seem to always turn out to actually just be a bunch of bigots hiding behind the ‘joke’.

There’s definitely another dumb asshole that I see around who also has (alpha male) in his username who I’m sure is quite serious. If I had a stolen screenshot handy, I’d post it.

  • I mean, considering that this is a successful meme on two different platforms and that there are multiple comments giving their own examples, I would assume that it’s a behaviour that a lot of people come across, regardless of your personal experience.

We live in a world where people who believe in jewish space lazers and think they’re going to get 5G from vaccines exist, and you find this hard to believe?

  • Yeah, Bruce Wayne is an eccentric rich guy in a city full of eccentric rich people up to their own shenanigans. And depending on the timeline or continuity, he doesn’t even run his own company most of the time, so wouldn’t necessarily be in the public eye all the time.

For Clark Kent, I’ve always loved the idea of certain key figures in the Daily Planet figuring it out themselves but keeping it to themselves. In the new movie, I very much got the impression that Perry White and Jimmy Olsen know. And IMO, ever since Lois figured it out herself in My Adventures with Superman, that’s the way it always should be from now and the versions where Superman keeps the secret for years and years aren’t the same now.

For me, the ones where it gets difficult to justify their secret identities remaining intact for long are characters like Static or Spider-Man that still go to school and live with their parents / guardians, and regularly slip away during trouble to regularly rescue their friends and family as their superhero selves.
