I don’t know if Syncthing is available on iOS but this works great to sync Keepass’s database between Linux and Android.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favorite movie that is in a language which you do not speak?
2·19 hours agoNot a movie, an episode of What If - Kahhori Reshaped the World? Disney worked with the Mohawk Nation. I don’t understand a word of it but it is musical.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where Should Advertisers Advertise?
1·4 days agoFor small businesses word of mouth works.
I know of a couple of pizza places that doesn’t advertise at all. Instead of spending $10,000 a year to pay someone to drop menus in mailboxes, they spend more on quality ingredients. Word gets around that they make good food.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What items do you have multiple of even though one would suffice?
6·4 days agoI have items for home and work:
Most of the year, my work gear is stored in the shed so I have all of these duplicated in the house.
Drills - a fullsized drill at home and a mini one for at work mostly to drive nuts and bolts.
Hand tools - screwdrivers, bits, wrenches, box cutter.
Headlamps - a small AAA at home and a AA at work.
Clothes - Like most people, I have dedicated work clothes.
AA batteries
Phone chargers - Home, car, and work. I also have multiple battery banks.
Headphones - an older corded pair at home and newer BT ones at work.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The Ritual Shaming of the Woman at the Coldplay ConcertEnglish
11·5 days agoIt’s my understanding at a Cold Play concert they make sure the audience knows they could be on camera. This is a place you don’t want to be while doing something you don’t want to be known to the public at large. I haven’t been following this story beyond the man getting fired from his job.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you guys celebrate Christmas this year?
2·7 days ago1/3 of my day helping mom in the kitchen - glad to do that.
1/3 of my day helping dad with his laptop - this was fuckin annoying because there wasn’t a damn thing wrong with his computer to start with.
Yesterday he wants to distro hop because Linux Mint doesn’t have a ProtonMail app (Why this is suddenly an issue after using Mint for a month is beyond me).
He decides on Fedora 43 Workstation. Easy enough to do except neither of us can enable the third party repos.
Next, he tries Fedora Everything (I never heard of this one). Dad found it too complicated.
This morning he is back on Mint and using a browser to access Protonmail. But now the laptop will not charge. This takes most of the morning and afternoon for him to solve. By this point I really couldn’t care less.
November 5 is a reference to Guy Fawkes.
1984 is a nod to the book.
I always enter November 5 1984 for any site that needs it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do you personally hate Christmas?
10·8 days agoI no long hate Christmas but many years ago I was a cleaner in a shopping mall food court. The food court was on the second floor and right below was a 40 piece brass band playing Christmas music on the weekend. The rest of the time the mall had the sound system cranked full. People had to yell as loud as they could to place food orders at the restaurants.
To the day, I still don’t like that music.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are your favorite leftist/longform video channels?
2·9 days agoDarkMatter2525. He used to talk about religion a lot but lately his content is political.
Not sure if PapaMeat qualifies as longform with videos from 25 to 40 minutes but he covers a wide variety of topics.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Has anyone else switched to a dumbphone?
8·10 days agoI would have to surrender too much privacy and pay far more per month to use a dumbphone. No E2EE messaging and tracked by cell towers all the time (I use VoIP over wifi). When I’m out the phone is in my pocket 90% of the time. I take it out to check my shopping list or look at the store flyer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a time you stuck to your principles despite it being inconvenient to you?
20·11 days agoMy parents were changing ISPs and we were told by the guys doing the connection that a cell phone number was necessary. We have been with this ISP a few times before and a cell was never required (we change when the other company has a sale).
I was the only one in the family with a cell at the time.
This happened a short time after I started degoogling so I had no problem saying no when someone asks me for personally identifiable information. I asked the tech “I just got home from work, what would you do if I wasn’t here?” and “Not everyone has a cell phone, you must have a procedure for those people” He seemed dumbfounded by my questions and refusal to hand over a cell number.
Bud kept insisting, I kept saying no. He caved and used Dad’s email address.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What mediocre game, show, or movie has an incredible soundtrack?
2·11 days agoI really like the tunes in Pacific Rim. Mediocre acting, decent action.
I pay for an email alias service, every service gets a unique email which I can disable or delete when they start spamming.
