  • Interesting thought though: in a world where it is normal to own weapons, to protect yourself during purge, and where it is normal for people to talk about plans for getting together in heavily armed groups to protect themselves during purge…it suddenly becomes a lot easier to coordinate in order to overthrow oppressive and evil governments.

Why do you have an arsenal of weapons? Purge. Why are you talking to people about getting together with weapons and supplies? Purge. Why are you discussing meeting places for your group? Purge.

I haven’t seen much of those movies myself, but I got the impression it’s even considered reasonable to discuss plans about who you’re gonna kill during purge.

  • There is no guarantee that they will get paid. For that to happen, congress will have to pass a spending bill that not only authorized future spending but also explicitly gives back pay for the time they were working without paying after the shutdown.

So far this has always happened, but I do remember some noises about not doing it around the last shutdown.

So especially after those comments last time, there is no certainty that if you come in to work for the government during a shutdown you will be paid.

There’s a reason the country lost credit rating, and it’s because people are slightly less confident that it will actually pay its debts, including simple payroll.

  • Sam aged, Frodo did not. I recall several mentions throughout the books that Frodo was considered unusually young-looking for a 50-year old hobbit, just as Bilbo himself was very young-looking for 111. Owning the ring seems to basically just pause your aging, even if you’re not using it.

Sam was also twelve years younger than Frodo, but since Frodo stopped aging for 17 years, he wound up effectively older, physically speaking.

  • The irony is that if they put it at or near the end of the video, after I have learned that I like whatever I watched, I am much more likely to do so, because I often really do just forget to like things, and a reminder near the end would in fact make me go ‘yeah, this was good, I’ll do that’.

But if they ask me to do it at the beginning, I won’t do it until I have seen enough to decide I do in fact like it.

It’s not implying he can’t be bothered, but that the machine can do a better job.

…which may be true, depending on just how bad he is at writing. Like, I was just watching this classic the other day. If this guy writes like some of those people, the machine may infact be better.

That said, for most people it’s stupid, and the tech isn’t able to do a better job at expressing such things.

    Yet.
