  • Curious, wouldn’t expect that from the US. Something to actually make life for people easier.

Tho idk, wouldn’t really call that “free transportation”. Like I guess technically it is… Idk, I’m just used to buying a year ticket for public transit for like 120 bucks and using it to get literally anywhere, so it’s a little underwhelming to call it a bonus of school for me.

  • Curious where you live, because non of those were a thing where I live.

Free transportation? You mean like your parents pay for it? Cus otherwise I’m confused.

Cheap food exists outside school too. Be it canteens or homemade food.

I’d argue that homework with parents more than kills any “free time” I had. Or rather I was the only kid that had free time, because I refused to do homework, ofc that meant getting yelled at by like every adult, but even slight freedom was worth it to me, even if it was lonely.

And especially bad grades do indeed mean expulsion. It also means what school you’re allowed to go to, and in places like Germany even the level of education you’re allowed to reach and thus dictating your fate at such a young age. As for me, I happened to always be in the good enough range of grades, because my parents kept forcing me. If it wasn’t for their intervention, I’d have a complete fucking shit life now, just like all the kids with parents that didn’t care. It’s pure bullshit.

School is hell. Words can’t expres how glad I am to have it behind me and I dread the day I’ll have a kid and I’ll have to see the system all over again.

  • Idk, I decided to not work on Fridays (a 20% pay reduction, but I personally feel it’s worth it) and there are like 50 weeks in a year, coupled with 5 weeks of payed vacation, since I only work 4 days that’s 50+5*4=70, which is over 2 months. And since I have no homework I can actually fucking enjoy my vacation and long weekends too!

It just dawned on me I’m assuming you have the same work benefits as in Europe… If you live in a country that’s not blue than YIKES! I feel sorry for ya.

  • Totally agree, except for school being better. Fuck school, from the bottom of my heart. Now I at least have the freedom to allocate some free time for my self and work on 1 thing that I understand. Not do homework for a million unrelated classes until my teachers stops bullying me or I kick the bucket.

  • As a zoomer that’s old enough to be working class now. Man, my childhood was fucked. At school, being a right wing troll was the norm, at least for boys. I was too.

The worst part is no-one cared, fucking “they’ll grow out of it” and now everyone is suddenly in shock. When I talk about it to my friend today he’s even in fucking denial about it, “Oh they didn’t actually mean that, it was all jokes”.

And our education system doesn’t do anything to combat this shit either. Quite the opposite, the dogmatic authoritarian approach schools take coupled with zero-tolerance policies pretty much ensures people shouting this hateful shit get away with it.

After all saying “Hitler did nothing wrong” only gets annoyed looks, gets completely brushed off as “edgy” or something. But then when someone points out that person’s shit, suddenly that’s an attack???

  • Thanks for not providing even a single example… I tried looking around and only found relatively niche use cases, like them being more reliable and resistant (while also being lighter) for extreme environments or infrequent use, for example emergency equipment. And then some people choosing em because they don’t feel like investing more into it, when they have only a couple devices that drain the batteries slowly, let’s say a clock that lasts a year. That could be easily fixed if you could exchange empty batteries for full ones like with gass tanks and similar, and the prior examples aren’t a good enough reason to have such batteries in the convenience store.

  • Honestly don’t feel like a slight reduction on a month long battery life is of much concern. As for waste, I’d say being able to replace a dead battery should reduce waste if anything, also nobody said it must be a AA (on a side note, you seem to imply the use of non-rechargeable AA, which holy shit, if they’re still a thing, must be purged, sweet jesus…who’s dumb enough to waste money on em???). Personally, I’d much prefer having a second battery charging separately somewhere, ready to swap, as opposed to being forced to stop using my computer. Or like the Nintendo Switch I mentioned before, have some spot I can put it away for charing, that way the mouse is also cleaned up and not fucking dangling and wobbling around freely on the table.

  • I don’t understand what was wrong with the original version that just took 2 AA batteries. Reaching for the AA charger and swapping cells not awkward enough or something?

Smart and elegant design would be hiding a battery charger in the iMac it self (maybe even use something smaller than AA), not expect you to flip and plug in your mouse every time ya leave it. The Nintendo Switch, while a completely different form factor, is a great example of an elegant (you could even say “wireless”) charging solution.

I’m getting really sick of the Apple esthetic of sticking out wires, be it the mouse or the dozen dongles for every portable device they now make. Uh! Can’t forget the world’s only pen that needs charging, for seemingly no reason.

“Debatable” is a heavy stretch for someone with a 0% track record when it comes to promised tech while repeating “we can do it NOW and it will be available NEXT YEAR!” for a literal decade. Robo taxies were supposed to be EVERYWHERE 4 years ago. Same with SpaceX, we were supposed to be sending the first people to mars this year, yet all Elon has managed was burn 3 bilion tax payer dollars for literal fireworks, as not a single “starship” managed to reach high orbit. Even the cybertruck is a cheap knockoff of what was promised. Not to mention the countless people that have died because he’s allowed to beta test his death machines in public. Can’t forget his starlink shenanigans in Ukraine, fucking warlord wannabe… Elon is the greatest scam artist in modern history, and it’s absolutely disgraceful that he isn’t behind bars, let alone valued at all.
