If this goes live, I’m out. YT premium is my most expensive subscription, but I watch enough YouTube that I’m OK with it, especially considering that it supports creators more than ad viewers. If I still get ads? Nah dawg. I’ll divy up that money amongst patreons or whatever, and install add blockers.
I just got my first computer controlled vehicle, a 2007 Volvo XC70. It’s fucking insane. The same code scanner equipment and software that the dealership has access to needs to be included with the car at purchase, and that equipment needs to be universal to all vehicles of that model, so it’s readily available on Ebay as cars go out of service. It’s the only solution I can think of to keep auto manufacturers from charging way to much for it like they do all of their parts/tools. You also should get all of the files that are relevant to the car with the car, in case you need to reprogram a module from another car. This stuff should also be available in some sort of database or something, maybe even government hosted, in case the files that came with the car get lost.
Instead, community members are left to reverse engineer and scrounge around to get tools working on their own. It’s genuinely insane how impossible it is to diagnose issues with modern vehicles as a home mechanic.
Sometimes you can’t fix something simply because you can’t replace a part with one from another car because it needs to be reprogrammed, but the dealership won’t reprogram it, and they also won’t give you the files so you can reprogram it yourself.
I’d rather get a cable that has the specs I need.
Well, duh, this would be more useful for those cables laying around your house that you’ve forgotten or never known the specs of.

Apparently a hot take, but I don’t have an issue with this, as long as they’re picture ads, not videos. An option to hide them temporarily would be good if you’re trying to read something. Maybe you’d need to hold a key or something. To me this is much less intrusive than 3 videos ads at the beginning of a video.
All of that said, I pay for premium, as I watch enough YouTube for it to be very very justified. I’ve probably saved weeks of my time not watching ads, plus it supports creators more than the ads ever do.
And there really is no reason other than that. I assumed there was meaning behind it. There is not.
There was an story a while back where it was discovered that Tesla focuses their efforts on the routes taken by creators (and other influencial people), to intentionally make self driving look better than it is.
For me it’d be more of a backup plan in case I forgot my wallet
Yeah, and as if anyone would know. They’ll send out the announcement internally on the Tuesday before the next fitbit releases, then announce it to the public on Wednesday.
As a tech nerd who self hosts stuff, I’m more like “what is IPV6 and why is it causing me issues, I can’t figure this out, I guess I’ll disable it, wow my problems are fixed now.”
I guess I can see why people don’t like it, as it’s caused me issues, but just because I don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s dumb. I’d need to understand how it works before I could say anything about it, positive or negative. I guess all I could say is that it’s been way less intuitive to me, I can’t memorize the numbers, and the reason it exists makes sense. Beyond that, I unno.
I should probably spend the time to learn about it, but I already have a full time job where I work on computers all day, I’d rather focus on my other hobbies while I’m at home.
Or just use Revanced or Grayjay, both of which are ad free and support sponsor block. Revanced is still a bit more feature complete imo, but also more buggy on my device, and more of a hassle to update. The browser YouTube experience is so bad, ads or ad free.
Can’t wait for Grayjay to finish their desktop client. I also hope they add better functionality to sponsor block, akin to the desktop or revanced experience.
Honestly, the second biggest issue, after the lack of desktop client, is that it doesn’t completely solve the problem. I’ll still have to use Dropout’s, Motor Trend on Demand’s (now integrated into Discovery+), and other’s streaming service apps, instead of having it all in one place.
That said, I’m not sure if Grayjay wants or intends to implement services that are more like a Netflix, where you’d be following shows instead of creators, considering their mission statement is to follow creators.
I really want Dropout’s stuff, Roadkill, and Hot Rod Garage in Grayjay so I can simply add the videos to my watch later. For a show like Breaking Bad or something, I don’t think I’d want that in GrayJay, but I suppose it’d be good to have options.
Yeah, like the other person said, corporate IT is responsible for that stuff. I guess they’re working through the weekend to try to get it fixed.
Yeah, our VMs completely died at work. Has to set up temporary stuff on hardware we had laying around today. Was kinda fun, but stressful haha.

I think kinda everyone did. I never loved the guy, I got weird vibes and thought he was majorly overrated, but I thought he was fine, and I respected the work he’d attached his name to.
Hell, I still respect the hell out of starlink, as someone who had dial-up or old style sattelite with 15GB/mo limits until I moved out of my parents house 6 years ago. That shit’s cool as hell, I would’ve killed for it as a kid, and my dad did shell out for it when it became available.
I don’t really attribute anything cool that’s come out of Elon’s companies to him any more though, in my mind all the credit goes to the talented leaders and engineers that are “under” him. There is something to be said about bankrolling these things, I suppose, but I don’t think it’s as noble a mission as we all once thought. He just wants to be liked by people and make money.
I still struggle to read personal computer and not think of any phone, laptop, etc as a PC. Hell, a calculator is a rudementary PC.
If there was a paid service that allowed me to download a file instead of having to buy a Blu-ray and rip it myself or be DRM attached to Amazon or something, I’d buy my movies for the higher quality than whatever odd torrent I find. The movie industry needs to do what steam has done. Make it more convenient to do it legally and people that have money will pay instead of stealing.
