  • Yeh those sliding type battery covers, I find those pretty irresistible myself. Knew it was a bad idea and likely breaking the remote before its time when I had those but sometimes it was almost unconscious and I’d just find myself removing the cover and sliding it back on without even realising. The ADHD is strong I guess. I haven’t had a TV whose remote had that style of battery cover for a long time luckily. The current one just isn’t even remotely :) satisfying to remove the cover and put it back on again so it’s safe from me.

  • But when he took the red pill he was relegated to eating a bowl of snot as his only food and living in a hellscape and had to fight a never-ending war whilst still having to regularly go back in to the matrix he was supposedly escaping. I mean I guess, great, for humanity but it doesn’t make picking Linux sound like a great time if you’re going to use that analogy.

  • I’m a grumpy bastard and hate similar things but honestly, this doesn’t sound so bad that I’d be particularly bothered by it or leave if I hadn’t already ordered that beer. It’s just wallpaper. If I was by myself I’d probably appreciate it on some level and if I’m with other people I’d likely stop noticing. Overall I think I’d probably prefer the bar not have them at all but it’s really not that bad.

Loud sports or music that can fuck right off but otherwise, meh.

  • Hopefully they won’t start standardizing TV’s that have to phone home periodically and if they are denied this for long enough, refuse to work until they’ve established a connection to their servers. I’m not aware of anything that does this but it’s definitely what will start happening if enough people disable network connectivity to circumvent smart features. This wouldn’t worry me too much since I’d likely want to use the device as just a display anyway and plug something useful in to the HDMI but if the whole machine is somehow tied up in these sophisticated operating systems, what if they just disable HDMI until they get their way?
