Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft CEO warns that we must 'do something useful' with AI or they'll lose 'social permission' to burn electricity on itEnglish
4·2 months agoI study mechatronics in Germany and I don’t avoid it. I have yet to meet a single person who is avoiding it. I have made tremendous progress learning with it. But that is mostly the case because my professors refuse to give solutions for the seminars. Learning is probably the only real advantage that I have seen yet. If you don’t use it for cheating or shorcuts, which is of course a huge problem. But getting answers to problems, getting to ask specific follow up questions and most of all researching and getting to the right information faster (through external links from AI) has made studying much more efficient and enjoyable for me.
I don’t like the impact on society AI is having bur personally it has really helped me so far. (discounting the looming bubble crises and the market effect it is having on memory f.e.)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Parents, would you take a bullet for your children? People with parents still alive: How would you feel if your parents died protecting your life?
5·2 months agoI think it’s an interesting fantasy to entertain. But you have to be careful not to use it to compensate for feeling like a bad parent when you fail at more mundane but real ways to care for you kids. I only say this because anyone I have ever heard say this more than once, gave me the impression to be compensating for something. Because they were not really in the best of life circumstances with their family. I include my own parents in this, who often madw hypotheticals like this, but were and are never there for me when I actually need them. So I try not to boast about hypotheticals with my own kid.
But you do raise an interesting point with the abandonment of pets.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Parents, would you take a bullet for your children? People with parents still alive: How would you feel if your parents died protecting your life?
10·2 months agoI would 100%. But I will add my opinion to this statement.
Taking a bullet ist such an extremely rare circumstance (especially if you live in a safe country) it will never ever happen in my life. It’s just a cheap statement to make yourself feel good. And I despise it when parents say it who I don’t feel make a good effort to support their kids in day to day life. Your kid does not benefit from a hypothetical life sacrifice. It benefits from your daily support, work and effort as a parent every day though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What mistakes did your parents make while raising you that you will be careful to avoid in your own parenting?
4·2 months agoThis seems very specific to the USA.
What bread are you eating? Another example I can’t relate to at all. I usually bake my own bread, sometimes I buy. Never had sugar in it. Maybe you were looking at Brioche or something? I consider that more of a sweet like cake or muffins.
As a city dweller I never seen this happen in Germany ever in my life. So not too common at least.

Lol this would actually be legal in germany. If you are severely disabled you can get a prescription prostitute paid for by your healthcare provider. Makes sense if you ask me, everyone need some human connection.

Nope. In germany you can actually get a prostitute paid by your healthcare provider if you are disabled because it has so many benefits for your mental health. If you never even experience that important part of human life you can easily get depressed.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google is redesigning its search engine — and it’s AI all the way downEnglish
9·2 years agoGoogle search is still a very shitty product right now. In a blind test I would never conclude they are the market leader. It used to work a few years ago though.

Those things are ADHD honeypots. I have never experienced something that is so close to hard drugs before.
