I’m more and more a fan of keeping my devices without any internet connection.
This is where I am too. Just built a new gaming pc and was planning to do dual boot.
Installed windows 11 LTSC and honestly, it’s everything I want in a gaming pc so I guess no need to install Linux.
Having said that, I bought a pc that came with windows; can’t wait to kill it with fire!
Although I agree in spirit, there is a bloatfree version of windows 11 called LTSC.
Makes me one happy windows user.
I didn’t know that picture of Patrick existed.

Can I ask how polluting the data will help?
It makes data less reliable.
How do we know if a certain profile is genuine vs someone dicking around. Or mostly genuine and the person didn’t do some malicious compliance for certain parts of the app they don’t care about.
If it becomes a social trend and someone gets caught, it would be easier to say they lied cause they wanted to do a tick tock challenge.
I don’t know what you mean by good data comes with proper consent.
When someone wants to help the data collectors then they would do more proper hygiene to their profile, keep things up to date and give honest feedback. Whereas someone like me never gives consent for data without being forced, so I always try to give as little and lie as much as I can.
I guess the assumption I made was that practically everyone knows apps and websites track them in some shape or form (even the least tech savvy person knows websites get total amount of visits), so “acting like no one is tracking you” isn’t ever true to begin with. Especially given this context for a period tracking app.
I don’t want to victim blame but if using an app is optional and it could get you in trouble with the law (regardless of how bad the law is), you should not use it.
Having said that, as a dev, please pollute data as much as possible.
Management needs to learn how valuable good data is and good data comes with proper consent (most people wouldn’t share their data if they could opt out).
Damn your right, I never mentioned which direction.
But let’s be honest, republicans don’t have the numbers for a landslide.
Maybe not but a landslide by Wednesday would be very reassuring.
Am a developer, please do not pay for any software subscription if you don’t think it’s worth it.
Us devs would love to give the best experience, but if the customer is willing to pay for a shit experience, guess which path management makes you take.
Hey, we left cause of the enshitification of Reddit itself, toxicity of the users was always part of the package deal.
Hi! It’s me, the guy you discussed this with the other day! The guy that said Lemmy is full of AI wet blankets.
Omg you found me in another post. I’m not even mad; I do like how passionate you are about things.
Since there isn’t any room for nuance on the Internet, my comment seemed to ruffle feathers. There are definitely some folks out there that act like ALL AI is worthless and LLMs specifically have no value. I provided a list of use cases that I use pretty frequently where it can add value. (Then folks started picking it apart with strawmen).
What you’re talking about is polarization and yeah, it’s a big issue.
This is a good example, I never did any strawman nor disagree with the fact that it can be useful in some shape or form. I was trying to say its value is much much lower than what people claim to be.
But that’s the issue with polarization, me saying there is much less value can be interpreted as absolute zero, and I apologize for contributing to the polarization.
And then people will complain about that saying it’s almost all hype and no substance.
Then that one tech bro will keep insisting that lemmy is being unfair to AI and there are so many good use cases.
No one is denying the 10% use cases, we just don’t think it’s special or needs extra attention since those use cases already had other possible algorithmic solutions.
Tech bros need to realize, even if there are some use cases for AI, there has not been any revolution, stop trying to make it happen and enjoy your new slightly better tool in silence.
I mean, we have no laws about os support.
Imo a very common sense one is to make any software too old to maintain just open source.
Ownership in software should be based on who is willing and capable of maintaining it.
I see some Cerberus in there.
See that’s the thing, he is trying to be the boss.
As a software dev, you are my hero!
Conservative: yes
Of course not, the whole point of disinformation is that it sounds correct, that’s AI’s bread and butter!
Okay I’m a big supporter of Linux but this is misinformation.
Windows 11 LTSC install was the easiest install I’ve ever done, even easier than mint (or as easy).
The imagine I used even asked me the username when I was creating the bootable usb so I would save some time.
It also let me opt out of data collection and the rest of the bloatware.
Came with office and it was pre activated.
Now, if only that’s what Microsoft offered their mainstream consumer…
Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes. My last sentence does point out that Microsoft doesnt intentionally make it easier but imo we shouldn’t circle jerk by just claiming things that can easily be false.
