I feel like running grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
would probably fix that.
Disclaimer: I mostly have no idea what I’m talking about.
The difference is, if the app were open-source someone could continue developing it.
If it’s proprietary, you’re shit out of luck.
There’s many things I dislike about how Mozilla operates, they are however completely outweighed by the massive list of things I dislike about Google.
Seeing as the only realistic options for browsers use either Blink or Gecko as their engine, I’d much rather use Mozilla’s offering than contribute (even if ever so slightly) to Google’s monopolizing of the web.
though if a sane Arch-based alternative arises (think Manjaro done right)
If ever you get the Arch itch, check out EndeavourOS. It’s basically vanilla Arch but with a GUI installer and basic defaults/programs preconfigured. They use the main Arch repos, so no weirdness with AUR stuff like in Manjaro.
The smart crib seems particularly dystopian to me. We don’t even need to wait for children to develop enough fine-motor functions to make use of smartphones or tablets, we can start collecting data on them before they even utter their first word!
How long before the smart cribs have ParentAI attached to them? Let the computer raise your child!
For anyone too lazy to check, ESET is a Slovakian cybersecurity company.
There is an airport that still uses Win 3.1 on some computers, don’t recall the name though.
You’re probably remembering articles stating that Southwest Airlines still uses Windows 3.1, they were floating around the tech news sites during the CrowdStrike fiasco a few months back.
I’d say French press ≈ Linux Mint.
Intuitive, easy to use and maintain, but despite the lack of fuss still delivers great results.
Yup, xkcd #198 to be exact. “Perspective” is the name of the comic, and the text underneath is the title text.
Pretty sure it was a Microsoft developer too.
Indeed it was, a PostgreSQL dev by the name of Andres Freund.
hoping to eventually switch to searxng
Do it! Easily the best search engine I’ve ever used. I do recommend going through all the settings beforehand, though.
I knew that on Lemmy someone would have commented this before me.
I use https://search.bus-hit.me/ but honestly searxng is best used with personalised settings.
While I’ll always be wary of corporations, Valve seems to be maintaining an overall good relationship with the FOSS community (for the time being).
I use Librewolf on desktop and Mull on mobile. I have a few extensions on both, which could definitely contribute to issues. When I have issues (usually government sites or financial stuff, sometimes DRM-related stuff for media) it’s easier to just use a Chromium-based browser with no extensions than try to troubleshoot specifically what’s causing the issues. I keep Falkon (desktop) and Vanadium (mobile) installed for this purpose.
I get the feeling a lot of issues people are having in Firefox might be due to extensions or settings, which gets “fixed” by using another browser (which happens to be Chromium-based because most browsers are) and they blame the issue on Firefox itself.
You never knowingly met a Linux user. Statistically speaking, you probably have.
The issue is that OS-preference is not very common as a small talk topic. This is why you should name drop your fav distro in every conversation.
EndeavourOS is my life self-censoring to be nice.
Because the relationship between him and his “base” isn’t one between citizens and politician, it’s a literally a cult following their leader.
