You mean there are more options then posting cringe feudposts daily begging your instances admins to defederate from instances instead of blocking them yourself?
That’s a feature. every instance gets to set and enforce their own rules. The users get to decide which communities (and their attendant rules and admins) they participate in. Humans don’t suddenly become more immune to the follies of power, but power is more distributed and (so far) are less likely to be captured by monied interests.
If you’re waiting for humans to suddenly stop falling for the temptation to abuse of power, I think you’ll be waiting a while. I think it’s a significant improvement on the centralized corporate model.
My friendship ended with Reddit. Now Lemmy is my friend. 🫂
Until a comment you makes pisses off a power tripping mod and then you are permabanned from like 16 communities.
Shits infected here too.
All the communities with power tripping mods here are either minor or have significant viable alternatives.
Heck you can make your own instance (as others have) and do what you want!

I wish that were true.
It is true. Did you even try?
Luckily, Lemmy is a place, where you can communicate with the actual human beings.
To everyone reading, you can check this person’s moderation history. Check out mine to, love that page!
Mods can’t manage more than 5 communities by design.
Really? But I see plenty of posts like this that show mods managing dozens of comms? https://lemmy.world/post/48545685
Maybe each instance can override the number?

Never underestimate just how corrupting it is giving marginalized people any semblance of power.
They are basically taking out their frustrations on the family cat except we’re the cat.
