While a lot of the plot is embellished, cause it’s a movie, the base premise is based on actual events. The Wikipedia has a good section on the historical accuracy - [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Hustle(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Hustle)
