linux runs, but where to?
Linux
- has boring name
Hurd
- has mutually recursive name
It’s time [to] explain the meaning of “Hurd”. “Hurd” stands for “Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons”. And, then, “Hird” stands for “Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth”. We have here, to my knowledge, the first software to be named by a pair of mutually recursive acronyms.
Wow TIL
Linux
Is
Not
Uni-
X
There is also the Hurd kernel, which has been in development for aeons.
imagine how good it will be when it’s finished. aged like fine wine. /s
You mean GNU/Hurd
Or Gnu plus Hurd as I’ve been recently calling it.
pretty sure Hurd shat the bed.
or was that Herd?
You sir just won a mega pint of wine.
I don’t wanna be that guy but… Linux is a kernel and Hurd is an operating system, so technically neither of them run by default
Hurd isn’t an operating system tho. It’s a bunch of microkernel servers for GNU Mach microkernel.
Hurd is the Kernel part of the GNU. Linux is the kernel that replaces the kernel part of GNU because Hurd is not yet ready for 64 bit arch.

I don’t see what’s so difficult about it.
